Only a couple of years ago Panasonic were boasting 60 odd billion colours ; Now Sharp trump it with their trillion . Which is all very well and good , but where is the material on disc to show even a fraction of them ? The last few rentals I made ( District 9 and Hurt Locker ) were practically monochrome , so aneamic was the colour palette . But revisiting an old curiosity on DVD recently had me amazed at the colours on it . Marie Antoinette may not be the obvious choice for a bloke's film but if you can get past the really quirky take on French history you will be rewarded with the most incredible display of pastel shades .

Pastel shades hardly sound more enticing than bold primaries , but trust me , they are actually more satisfying . I never knew there could be so many different shades of colour . You won't either , and this is why this disc ought to be included with every TV sold . Never mind those THX and DVE set up discs - this is the one you need . They have stacks of these secondhand in Blockbuster for just a few quid . Look for the bright pink box .
