I am complete novce att this stuff and would be very grateful for advice. My current system having irrevocably died I want to attach my existing stereo tutntable to a new simple CD/Radio micro system. I am not an audiophile and not looking for high end equiipment and being old have lost high-frequency hearing. All I want to do is listen to my LPs.

I understand I need a pe-amp and also a phono plug to 3.5mm jack plug connector. I see that pre-amps can cost more than £2000 and less than £20 and am confued!. Can anybody advise please.

Also I live more than 50 miles from the nearest specialist shop so advice on supplier would also help.

Many thanks

Hi Ray and welcome.

Another option you should consider is buy a turntable with the phono-stage already built in. You would plug this straight into the line-inputs on your micro-system as though it was a CD player or a DVD player, with no additional gadgets required. Online (e.g.: eBay) you can buy basic brand-new turntables which will do this for £not a lot of cash. Or you can go to a HiFi shop (online or in person) and they will sell 'audiophile' models of basically the same idea from the likes of Pro-Ject for £quite a bit more. It all depends how much you want to spend and how good you want the sound.
