What happend to secret innovation launched by a single company to steal the market (e.g. Sony walkman, I pod, etc etc etc)

How come all these manufacturers come up with the same idea at the same time and all launch within weeks of each other? is it industrial epionage or is just a cartel to drive sales of flat screen tv's. (and what about poor old sharp with their 'quintron' or whatever it is, were they off sick when everyone agreed to go 3D???)

I've been looking at £3k 3D tv's for so long now anything below £2k looks a bargain

No deep secret - they're all simply chasing the same slice of what they think will be the next big thing.

Sharp has merely decided to play the waiting game and see how 3D pans out; it's busy doing things like expanding its market share in the Chinese market.

These days innovation is hampered by the availability of material to display. 3D TVs require 3D programmes to display, and no one manufacturer can drive this alone.
