24 fps, is it really enough?

Hello all,

I have just viewed some 1080P 24 fps content on my 40w4000 tv hooked up to a bdp-s350b blueray player. I must say I think it is a huge step forward in terms of image quality ( I am a fan now) compared to standard DVD.

Now there is one thing that I could do without. This thing that made me think that my brand new stuff wasn't handling things as it should. When I watched the first couple of minutes of the newest batman on Blueray, I noticed that during a slow zoom-in on de city the buildings did have a little stutter/shocking in their movements. I thought that this was weird because my 40W4000 Sony TV was telling me that it was handling a 1080P 24 fps image sequence as did the blue 24fps light on my bdp-s350. It seems to arise with some movements, slow panning and slow zooming, that these stutters can become visible at 24 frames per second. 24 fps does not seem to be enough sometimes. It seems like the eye is not to be fooled in some situations. Still I find this strange Because I can't recall ever witnessing any of the stuttering motion at the cinema, maybe that has something to do with the double shutter times at the cinema.

Can someone give me a explanation of why this is happening or am I the only one noticing this?

Greetings

hi, having watched the film i never noticed any stuttering on my tv. i have a sony s350 also but my tv is a panasonic 50" plasma which is known for excellent motion flow. one question have you adjusted your motion flow from standard to high it might make a difference i know lcd tvs have this setting might be worth a try.

Definitely check the refresh rate you have set and see how it goes - I know my KRP-600M is smoother in 100Hz mode than 60 or 75.

Have you tried turning all the picture processing off completely? I know my previous Grundig CRT had all manner of processing and it was best with it all turned off. Hopefully some other Sony owners will be along soon to help.

Thanks for your replies,

My Sony isnït a 100Hz TV so therefor I canït use the feature. The 40W4000 also hasnït got the motion options in the menuïs. As there are no problemïs with this TV in combination with the PS3ïs fast gaming I donït think the TV is the problem. I also havenït read about any motion issues in the What Hifi 40w4000 review, incontrary.

I did find another website http://www.projectorcentral.com/judder_24p.htm wich descibes my issue. I think this is a nice artikle. If this is so then I must just accept what Iïm witnessing sometimes.

I have to say that itïs not like I hate 1080P 24 fps image sequences now. I just love ïem. Itïs just too bad that it isnït as smooth sometimes as I had hoped for. If you are really into a movie itïs possible you arenït gonna see it, but for me it can be one of those things that can get me anoied and take my attention away from the film.
