Hi All,

I have a Neutrik speaker cable, with the connector on one end and bare wires on the other. It's a two core cable. Is this usual? I got the cable to connect my MJ Acoustics subwoofer high speaker level input to my amp, though from what I've seen/read I'm meant to have a 3 core? Or perhaps I'm misreading and I should just connect one cable to two plus "+" terminals on front left/right speakers and the other cable to the negative to one. Does that sound right?

The colour of the 2 core cables are brown and blue, if that helps.

Thanks,

Ben

Thanks Russle, I thought I must of had the wrong cable. The cable I bought isn't official MJ Acoustics, I just picked up a cheapy one from fleabay. That'll teach me from buying cheap rubbish then...

So just to check, is a 2 core cable like this wrong? Whats to difference with 3 core? does a Neutrik connector have 3 points of contact, or is a "3rd" cable in a 3core just 2 cables connecting to one point of contact on the connector?

Hi Ben, I think you definitely need a 3 core neutrik cable. Here's an extract from the MJ website :-

2. Movie Setup:
This connection is made the same way as the above "stereo mode" but is usually in addition to the sub having the low level input from the dedicated sub out on a 5.1 AV amplifier. Connections are as follows:
RED to left + (positive) - front speakers
YELLOW to right + (positive) - front speakers
BLACK to ONE of the - (negatives) - front speakers, NOT BOTH
.

I hope that helps ?

Just on the offchance, does anyone with a 3 core neutrik cable know what colour cable goes to which connector on the neutrik device? i mean, what colour cable goes to the centre connector, and what one to the outer?

ta!

Hi again Ben,

On my REL sub's supplied 3 core neutrik cable, the connections are as follows :-

1+ yellow

1- empty

2+ red

2- black

Do I sense a DIY job ? Good luck.
