does anyone know if the pioneer pdp 436xde plasma is 1080p compatible ?

That Pioneer has a screen resolution of 1024 x 768, so no, it's not 1080p compatible.

...Though of course it'll still show 1080p content, just downscaled to suit its resolution.

Don't dismiss 'just' HD Ready sets, as often the picture is superb with any type of HD content. In fact, a good HD Ready set will beat a poor Full HD set anyday.....

Does anyone have experience with playing 1080p (PS3) games on a screen with a lower resolution?

Will a good HD Ready set still beat a poor or mediocre Full HD set?
