do you know any speakers with Ribbon tweeters ? i had read that they are difficult to pair with amps? tube or what erver?

There was a thread on here about ribbon tweeters not long ago started, I believe, by insider9. Google search for it.

They are not difficult to drive, or necessarily to pair. Where did you read this? Perhaps you are referring to certain speakers that use electrostatic panels?

Yes, I started the thread regarding ribbons a while ago. I love ribbon tweeters and can't imagine not having speakers that incorporate them. There's been quite a few great tips as to what speakers to look out for. I certainly learned a lot. It still surprises me that ribbons are not more commonly used. The difference is vast to my ears but of course poorly designed speaker with ribbons will be put to shame when compared to well designed dome tweeter design.

Ribbons can be difficult to drive due to massive dips in impedance. That only applies to certain speakers, so don't be put off. From my research it looks like it's mostly older designs that need really good amplification e.g. Apogee and Infinity. But even Apogee released easier to drive speakers with long ribbons such as ribbon hybrid Centaurus Minor (if I remember correctly).

I don't suppose pairing should be a problem. I would avoid budget amps but that can be said for other speakers also.

can a amp lets say of 500 euro works? and a ribbon speaker of 500 euro? ps. do you know some 5 stars review of ribbon tweters speakers made by what hifi?
Roksan Kandy K2 TR5 rated 5 stars by WHF and nowhere near that price. Sadly ribbons are mostly used on more expensive speakers. Speakers under £1,000 using ribbons are not the norm.

Recently only can think of Quad S-1 and S-2 as well as the above Roksan before their S2 edition.

XTZ make some very nice looking speakers with ribbon tweeters starting from about £300.

I have no idea how they sound but they have a very good reputation .

If you want an amp that just loves low impedance speakers that go down to 1 ohm or less then the Abrahamsen V2.0 UP is the one at £999.00

Or if you are on a tight budget then the standard V2.0 at £799.00 is nearly as good .

"While ribbons may seem like the obvious choice for any audiophile, there are some pretty serious drawbacks. The very low impedance (i.e. the measure of the opposition that a circuit presents to a current when a voltage is applied) is somewhat unusual, which makes matching it to a suitable amplifier difficult, which normally means having to acquire a matching transformer"

This blog is generallising. I have had no trouble driving any of my speakers that had ribbon tweeters with my 25 wpc valve hybrid amplifier set-up.

using a Yamaha AS500 either. Most IPL speaker kits use ribbons so if you're OK with basic woodwork they're worth looking at.

Please explain what you mean?

Edit: did you mean wood working skill? If so, understand.

Iq speakers can make them also

Quadral (apparently) make decent standmount and floor speakers with ribbons .... Would love to hear the Chromium 8 versus the Quad z3 .....
