Don't be put off by the green blob issue. I bought the 42gt30 in January and have had no problems with it what so ever, best TV I have ever had and intially I was going to go for a Samsung due to the mentioned problems, but once I demoed the GT30 there was no going back.
I concur totally with this. I can say I was seduced by the look of the Samsungs but once I demoed them along side the GT30 there was no comparison. I went with the best set that I could afford and that was the Panasonic, I have a 5 year warranty also so am content. I also realise that its a tad...
I think you will find that most of the old models are now being discounted and its quite clear that your own blinkered view regarding Panasonic is far from offering the op some clarity in his purchase!
The 3d is brilliant great depth and to be honest I get on well with the active, even the wife does and she is very hard to please. The sammy#s are good but I in my opinion the GT30 shades it and its not a bad looking set.
I don't know much about the Panasonic Viera TX-L42ET5B, but I recently purchased a 42gt30 and am very pleased with the set. The purchase was between the sammy 7000 and the gt30 but when demoing the sets at Richer Sounds I found the Panny to offer the best viewing.
Also the Samsung 40D6530 has issues with its 3d capabilities i.e not offering full HD. The GT30 can be had a good price with glasses and is a much better set.
Just purchased the 42GT30 and it has none of the issues (yet) and have to say that its the best TV I have come across, can highly recommend it. We have quite a light room and it works fine. 3D is great as well.

Just goes to show that this 3D is going to take some getting used to. The normal punter on the street still can't get their head around HD so what chance with adding this into the pot?
