Even if you've switched the sub on in your amp, it may have different output settings for stereo, mine has options like direct and it doesn't send music to the sub using that setting .... I can't now remember which settings did and which didn't. Assuming you've tested your sub in some other way...

I'm not an Apple Music user but the WiiM is compatible with Airplay 2 which is probably better than Blue Tooth.

If your quest is to try and stick some money in the bank and still have decent sound, Acoustic Energy AE1's may at least be worth a listen.

I just went back and re-read your opening post, have you tried the Ultra with both RCA out using it's internal DAC vs Optical / Coax out into you amp to use it's DAC instead ..... I'd really give that a proper try to see which you prefer ...and more to the point if you hear any noticeable...

I believe using anything but USB out from the Ultra you'll be using it's clock which totally defeats adding to the something else into the chain with to SMSL as the whole purpose is to use it's clock instead. More than happy to be corrected if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

Get yourself a Chord Qutest :D I believe the argument for this is the "clock" in the SMSL PO100 Pro is superior and gives the option of passing that duty over from the WiiM ..... I certainly found there was a difference using USB out into my Qutest which does the same thing but passes it to...
