I asked the question hypothetically, in terms of all else being equal. same phono, the Rega Aria phono, so there is no bottleneck there in any case and the Exact MM cartridge when comparing the Planar 3 and 6 or tha Ania MC - for Planar 6 and 8.

I read somewhere that the Planar 1 struggles sometimes with records heavier than 180gr. it might be even more noticeable if coinciding with another of the problems everyone else suggested. if that is the case, the units are not faulty. just not powerful enough.
