Question Why Youngsters are not into Hi-FI

I would think HiFi like many things is a subscribed idea. How one gets into it is a moment of awareness of such idea, accidentally or not, I got into it because my mate back in uni had his first "entry" Tannoy with Cambridge, I thought my pioneer sounded nothing special. My mate went to the...

Hi-fi recommendations for house parties and home listening

I second JBL, I like especially the vintage stuff, 4344 etc those massive studio monitors. I can’t comment on the “vintage series” the current line up, as I have only heard them in hifi show. JBL or Klipsch sound so good on low volume, I imagine house party you don’t crank it up perhaps in the...

    It's all about the bass

I have a pair of bulky Spendor Bookshelves, when Covid was about to ease, I went around auditioning floorsstander like Spendor A7, Proac R20 etc, bigger bass but I’m used the bass with bookshelf, for me it’s a lot easier to tune the bass, and in case of bass deficiency you can supplement with a...

    Seperates

I would get a DAC(used) with Bluetooth function. Which could upgrade the sound from your CD player. There’s already jumper cables on the connectors, just a pair of speaker cables + and - both go in the bottoms.

If you had £600 to spend and needed some new speakers....?

Monitor Audi Bronze 100 £499. I have no doubt Rotel can drive B&W however with your type of music B&W will sound better with muscular amp with big current design. Or check out entry JBL or klispch around £500-£600, they sound great with rock.

Question Used Jamo E680, is this a good deal?

Haven’t heard these speakers and I’m under the impression not many people in this forum do. Sorry not being helpful, Jamo is going budget/entry level market, but back in the days they were hi end, my friend owned Oriel floor tower, they were top notch speakers. So if it’s early 2000 I’d say...

    4000€, for a tiny room..

Don’t know what you listen to mostly also hifi gear price is probably different your part of the world. I’m guessing you’re into punchy good bass sound. I suggest JBL L82 or JBL 4309 matched with one box integrated I.e Naim atom, NAD streaming amp(used). Focal and B&W have good bass also.

News Chi-Fi: The Harbinger of Doom, or Bringing High-End Sound to the Masses?

I knew this topic will pop up sooner or later. I think it’s as simple as Chinese are looking to compete in the hifi market in the world. I’m Taiwanese and in the UK I come across some people who say they remember things were made in Taiwan etc. The complicated political relation between China...

Budget repalcement amp for classical - advice please

Hi sorry it’s probably a bad timing to contribute to your post. I really rate Dynaudio but I don’t know all the series I’m afraid, I wouldn’t think it’s the tweeter but a mismatch with the amp. I currently have a pair of Spendor which is very laid back or soft sounding speakers. I drove them...

    Rega Saturn-R for classical?

Speakers should have more impact on the characteristics you are describing (in my opinion) Rega makes great amp, it’s a combination thing rather an amp question. I’m using Naim which is also famous for PRAT and people generally don’t think they are famous for classical music. I’m a classical...

    CD - a dated format???

I grew up from the CD era, if I didn't give most of them away due to moving countries, I probably have around 2000 CDs by now. Years ago I bought Esoteric CD/SACD player(about 18 years old), it's still sitting on the hi-fi rack. After I played around with external DAC which made my aging...

Question How can I get clearer, punchier bass out of my Dali Oberon 5s, Rega Brio and Thorens TD160?

My experience says go with high sensitivity speakers like JBL, Klipsch these brands are more in your face sort of presentation, I really like JBL vintage speakers(i.e 4343, not cheap if they are properly restored), they sound pretty amazing at low volume without feeling you lose all the...

Question Are you into Hi-Fi or Music?

Just from a musician's point of view, I am a classical trained violinist. I also play Jazz and involved in rock and recording projects. I must say listening to music production as end result is so different from listening to yourself and the surrounding sound during a performance. For...
