I think Vintage stuff is where value for money is although it's now started to getting more expensive. Something like 70's Luxman or Sansui do sound rather good, there might be a cap or 2 need replacing to get them sound fresh.

This is a strange question :? Does DAC quality really matter? It certainly does sir. Now that doesn't mean finding a quality on would be an easy task. Many digital products sharing the same chipset and power supply, that's why some of them sounded far too similar to worry about too much.

Alpha1 can dig a bit more bass with 16 inches of TAD bass driver but not much more (34 hz) They do sounded pretty much the same as the Affascinate but with even bigger imaging.

The wood on them look stunning in real life :)
