Yeah I didn't see myself going beyond the 272 + 200 but when I found a very nice preloved 300 at a great price it was impossible to resist. Then came the XPS DR, then it was swapped for a 555 DR, and then a 252 + SC. The 272 is a wonderful machine but it was a no brainer to swap it for an NDS...

The treble and mid is very refined to my ears and whilst the bass doesn't go all that far down it's very rich and tight... sorry I'm not good with describing these things! Overall I'd say it's a very nicely balanced and engaging presentation and never tiring. I did find I had to play around...

Yes you're absolutely right it's my upgraditis again. I'm feeling more settled now to hear the Br2 are still decent. They certainly sound that way to my ears. The power amp upgrade made a huge difference. Whether that's the amp itself, the pre-amp coming into play on the 272 or a combination...

Thanks for the recommendation PP. They do look apart from a couple of veneer splits which would bug me however small! Theses speakers are on my radar now though as I see a couple have gone for a little over £300 previously.

Thanks they do sound pretty good now and I don't want to upgrade for the sake of it, The last two upgrades put a massive grin on my face. Food for thought. And if I stick I can upgrade the floor standers earlier after the move so something to consider for sure.

Also have you checked the quality of the stream you get from Apple. I'm new to streaming and went for Tidal after getting advice on here. It's supposed to be CD quality and it sounds great to me. Tidal do a month free if you wanted to compare.

Hi Graham, I'll be in the same boat soon. Redecorating and refurnishing the living room shortly and struggling to find ideal speaker placement and that's planning everything else around them! The sand in the speaker stands is a good one, I've just done it myself. Really cheap and easy upgrade.

TV above the fire with speakers either side would make a big difference. you could leave the separates where they are and bury leads under the carpet.

Have you tried more than one line out from the amp?

If it's the Technics speakers you're wondering about fixing then my advice is don't bother. I had the same or very similar in the 90's and they were not great. I think good new speakers will make a tremendous difference.
