And finally the 3020i was introduced in 1991. It was phased out sometime later in the 90's, I don't know when - if anyone knows or has some old copies of What Hi Fi from the 90's that might give us some clues please let me know.

In the early 80's there was also a Pre Amp version called the 1020 which in 1983 sold for £77. 1020A and 1020B versions also followed in 1984 & 1985.

    The Nad 3020 Appreciation Society

This is the 3120 also released in 1985 and was basically a 3020B without the tone controls. It was often referred to as the 'audiophile' version although sold for just £119 in 1985 and along with the B version was discontinued the following year...

    The Nad 3020 Appreciation Society

And this is the 3020B introduced in 1985, I acquired it just this week and I'm astonished at the mint condition, its looks like it just left the factory! (Yes I know I'm crazy!). Since this is the 'appreciation thread' I thought I would post photos and basic info of all the models and variants...

    The Nad 3020 Appreciation Society

This is my 3020A acquired last year and like the first one has been serviced and recapped. This replaced the original version in 1983 and I would date this as 1983-84.

    The Nad 3020 Appreciation Society

This is my NAD 3020 MkII. The original 3020 was first released in 1978 and was replaced in about 1983 so I would estimate this model dating between 1980-83.

Lossless audio is not that important

    Very good point.

Lossless audio is not that important

I can certainly hear the difference between lossless and MP3, I can also hear the superior sound of Hi Res stereo too when compared to cd if the source material is a modern recording that has been well recorded/produced and engineered/mastered. How important is it? That's down to personal taste.

    Atmos through headphones

I too have been trying to get to the bottom of this because I have some music Blu Rays that have a Dolby Atmos track on them. I've watched interviews with for example Steven Wilson who has said that you can get a roughly 60% simulation of Dolby Atmos binaurally on headphones but so far I have...

    CD vs vinyl playback

Maybe it's not about which is best but which you prefer. Back in the day when vinyl was king I used to record my LP's onto TDK Chrome cassettes and then replay those because I always thought the tape playback sounded better. It gave the music a brighter sound with more attack and lost the warmer...

    System photos, post yours

This is my crazy system, out of shot is my Rega Planar 3 t/t which can be plugged in when wanted and living under the tv is an approx 25 year old NAD C541 cd player and a Sony Blu Ray player both connect via a Cambridge Audio DAC100 to the NAD and Cambridge Audio amps. Using splitter/doubler...

What is on your hi-fi wishlist?

My biggest wish would be to be able to move to a detached property.....in the middle of a field..... then I could get a more powerful amp...and some REALLY BIG SPEAKERS :)

What do I need to start ripping my vinyl to a Laptop

About 20 years ago I bought a cd recorder and copied lots of vinyl that way. I could then rip the cd's on my pc if I wanted them in file format. It was time consuming but I just did it for albums that were not available on cd at the time.
