I've never heard the PV1 (or PV1D). The nearest that I've come to it was its closest rival the Paradigm Seismic 110, which five years ago I decided was not for me. Nevertheless, What Hi-Fi loved the PV1D, it won a group test in 2012 http://www.whathifi.com/bw/pv1d/review.

You are not wrong. And a 3dB increase in power is quite easy to miss if you are not paying attention. To achieve a doubling in subjective loudness, you need to increase the power by a factor of 10.
