Good budget CD Player: Pioneer PD-30AE?

To start a hifi system by choosing a cd player first is a bit strange as the amp and speakers are much more important components. If you bought a marantz or yamaha amp then most models (please check before buying) include a dac. You could then play cds from a cheap dvd player via the amplifier's...

    Extreme Budget Challenge

I still have a topaz cd10 in the attic. The loading mechanism is rough/noisy and cds take an age to load. Some models also place a silent gap when one track runs into another. As far as I'm aware via reviews the cambridge cd players higher in the range eg cd351 are much better. The yamaha cd...

    New year new CD player

Athough marantz make good equipment a number of reviews on https://www.richersounds.com/hi-fi/separates/cd-players.html suggest there can be problems with older discs with marantz cd players. I personally have the yamaha s300 and it is faultless, loading is very quiet, the reviews suggest no...

The Roksan Blak total power and the misleading WHF review

http://www.hifichoice.co.uk/news/article/roksan-blak/23777 For what it's worth this review also claims "2x150" in the text and has a similar stance to WHF about the amp.

Replace Marantz PM6005 with Used Cyrus?

Papa's chip shop in Hull won the bbc "great british takeaway" award, if I remember right. Maybe the seller is a person of considerable refinement.

    What DAC?

This company is well regarded, though I don't have one of their dacs, you could research reviews http://schiit.eu.com/dacs

Aftermarket/audiophile power cables. Surely they make a difference??

I'm just waitng the cricket to start, and, being at a loose end, did a cursory count of the posts so far. 89/241 posts contain knowledge against, or scepticism towards cables making a difference or are written by people who have given that view in other posts on the thread, 151/241 are by people...

Moving on from an all in one?

Hello A view Your initial aim was to decisively upgrade the amp, then gradually your your use of budget has changed to include a tuner and cd source. You probably don't need a tuner. If you got a marantz pm 6006 for £270, which includes a dac you could use the freeview on your tv via an...

    Further issue re posting replies

I think that if you read a thread before logging in, then if you reaccess that thread it doesn't recognise you as logged in, whereas if you choose a thread you have not read before you logged in, all is ok.

    Marantz CD5001, CD5400 and CD7300 info

the more recent series of 5xxx, 6xxx,7xxx,8xxx have probably been running for 7/8 years with sequential models adding a digit, eg the 6 series started at 6001 and 5 improvements later has reached 6006. The 8 series is better than 7 series etc etc. My best guess is that the 2nd hand models you...
