NJC audio based in Devon do a fantastic headphone amp....I had it driving a set of hifiman he6se cans no problem....and they now do thier small range of electronics in a black finish, just used to be a silver finish.....cracking kit but not as budget friendly as it once was...

You say "when you stepped away" so are you standing at this point.....you need to be sat in the listening position and that's where the point of reference should be....not stood up and walking around the room.....if you want to listen about the house etc etc....that's what Bluetooth speakers are...

I don't think the question here is how large the space is, but how far away are you from the listening position.....the soundstage envelope is the important factor here, nothing beyond that boundary should really be a factor in Choice of components. front ported /rear ported barely makes any...

I doubt you will hear a discernable difference between the two at this price point.

Dali menuet se are great up close to the wall, could do with a small subwoofer though to get that extra bit of low end....I'm sure the Atom would be able to drive them especially if it doubles it's power into 4ohms.....although that budget would have to be stretched a bit to bag a good pre loved...
