I can highly recommend giffgaff. For £10 per month you get 500 mins talk, unlimited texts and 1gb data. Takes care of all of my needs and i use data most days though not to download music or vids. I think you can get unlimited data for £2 extra. You can even use your mobile data allowance for...
Hi All
I have just installed the Triode Spotify plugin for my squeezebox touch. It seems to be working fine according to the test I ran within squeezecentre and the Touch responded during the test. My problem is that I still have no idea what the plugin does. Nothing seems to have changed in...
I have been hearing a lot about how good the Audiolab M-Dac is as a dac and it seems to be mentioned almost as an aside that it can function as a preamp. Does anyone have any insight into its capabilities as a preamp? How does it compare to the various Cyrus pre/dac combos for instance? I am...
I have recently replaced my arcam rdac with the rega dac and must say that I am slightly disappointed. It doesn't seem to offer anything over and above the rdac and even seems slightly worse in some areas. My initial impression was that it gave a more three dimensional soundstage, more natural...
Many thanks! I didn't expect anything to happen this quickly if at all!! Does this moment call for an emoticon? Probably not but here goes anyway :rockout:  :read:
Apologies if this has been covered before, I couldn't see anything in a cursory search so here goes...I would really like to see WHF CD reviews from the mag included on the website. Its interesting to read reviews from a different perspective to the usual music mags - less of an axe to grind...
Can't comment on the rega dac/squeezebox combo but I can tell you that I run my squeezebox with an external hard drive with no problems. I have a vague awareness that there has been a difficulty with some external hard drives but this may have even been resolved by now. Search for a squeezebox...
Have to say +1 to the rDAC and Maplin regulated power supply that has been mentioned by others on these pages. I have no idea why it should improve the sound, whether there is a technological or psychological explanation, but it has done and obviously. Maybe there is a lower bar to pass when the...
I think my hifi is affected by atmospheric conditions but I put it down to other factors like whether I have windows, doors and curtains open, music I'm listening to being influenced by the weather, mood influenced by weather and (any scientists are welcome to tell me I'm being foolish) air density.
I would also take a look at dBpoweramp for FLAC ripping. You do have to pay for it at around £20 - 25 but it will collect the metadata automatically when you rip your CDs and will also preserve the gaps between tracks as they are on the original CD. There is an option to trial it for free for...
As earlier poster mine will probably change in 10 minutes but...
The Doors - The End (epic, original and fantastic musicianship)uzz
The Arctic Monkeys - Do me a favour (anyone see them at T in the Park? Cracking!)
The National - Bloodbuzz Ohio (brilliant video, great song)
Kate Bush - A...
Is it not the case that as 'improvement' in sound is subjective then manufacturers are legally unable to claim this. As in some might consider a system bright whilst others might consider it detailed. You can't reliably say that something that is down to taste is an improvement for all. Hence 8...
I have now added in some Goldenjack Attenuators and it may just be wishful thinking but it seems to have filled the sound out a bit. I can now pump the volume level to around the 9 o'clock range and still be well within sociable listening levels. Its still no bass pounder but sounds less as...

Animals As Leaders - Animals As Leaders
TBH, I can't decide whether this album is monotonous and self-indulgent or rather splendid??
It is splendid, with a bit of self-indulgence that is typical of the post rock genre. Presently listening to The Beta Band, continuing...
