Yes - at least they've rectified this. Although the features are still rather limited for the price, including an apparent lack of a search (<< / >>) facility. Jetblack9090 says, " the majority of manufacturers releasing products under the $1,000 mark will be affected by this whether you know it...
Except the product can't play classical music, prog rock, opera, etc as it introduces an unwanted pause in between tracks of continuous music. Don't buy it if you listen to the above or any CD which has continuous music divided into separate tracks.
I notice that on 7th November WHF wrote another review giving the Arcam CD5 a top recommendation, not mentioning that it was a flawed product and saying it was, "seriously good, seriously capable and seriously fun". "Seriously capable"? Does an Arcam employee write the reviews? It's shameless.
Sorry Al ears. But rather than defend this I think you might like to get in touch with WHF and let them know this is a reputational damage issue for WHF, not just Arcam.
Er....? A 'majority' that doesn't include listeners to classical music, prog rock, any album of continuous music divided into tracks?!! How can that be 'perfectly adequate'? I think the majority of this thread above would disagree with you. I think most of us expect any CD player to play any...
Yes. I notice WHF are still promoting this CD player, even though it is clearly not fit for purpose. It does raise the question: when will they stop promoting a defective CD player? And if not, why not? Currently this is a grave disservice to their readers.
My current CD player is a Technics SL-PG580A. That makes it, what. over 20 years old?! And it performs better than the new Arcam CD5 which I bought to replace it (see thread on the Arcam CD5). Sound is still good. Plays all kinds of music CDs without a problem. Lots of flexibility in its...
A couple of more points about the Arcam CD5 which you might like to bear in mind if you're still thinking of buying it. The remote is very minimal with no instructions on how to use it to access any features other than very basic ones. You just have to press away and see what you can discover...
Just bought the Arcam CD5 CD player as a What Hi-Fi Top Recommendation with 5 stars all round, only to discover that it can't provide gapless playback on industry standard mass-produced CDs, even though this is (I understand) the audio CD redbook standard. In other words, it introduces an...
