No, as mentioned Bluetooth and other streaming options are not really options for them.

My feeling is not (is that typically the case?), so that's something I'd have to check, but my parents' patience for such things is getting short!

The Sky box would be used for TV viewing and also for radio but with the requirement that the screen is off when used for radio.

That's a fair shout. I'll find a retailer that can demo the set up as my parents would want to use and see what happens.

I'm with you on all that, but I need a solution whereby they can play audio from the Sky box without the TV being on. Running a connection via HDMI requires the TV to be on, I would have thought.

I spoke to Sony. They confirmed that I can only use the HDMI or optical connection for sound - not both! In terms of full disclosure, this is my parents' set up and in terms of of all the equipment and how they would like it to be connected... Equipment Sky HD - they want to watch TV...

Well, it all started working out of the blue...sort of. By that, I mean that if an optical cable is also connected to the soundbase (which is connected at the other end of the cable to a CD player), I don't get any sound from my Sky box. Take out the optical cable and the sound returns...!

I've got a Sky box, Panasonic Blu Ray and Sony soundbar hooked up to a newly bought Panasonic TV. The soundbar is connected to the TV via HDMI ARC. This is allowing us to see menu screen on the soundbar, but we're not getting any sound from any of the components at all. Any ideas why this might...

I gave the full power off a go, but to no avail. I'm now seriously considering all new speaker cable.
