New Dac the FiiO K13 R2R: Early Impressions

I've had my K13 R2R since mid-October and it just works, which for me is a good thing and aligns with your "I stopped thinking about technical details and just played album after album" comment @Stuart.W.D It's a perfect DAC / Amp for my office and in my view there are only two issues. The PEQ...

    Amplifier recommendations

The open-box Denon plus a WiiM Mini would suffice for a low cost streaming solution. It looks like you can get Mini's for around $120 in Canada.

    Best compact headphone listening solution?

The FiiO M21 is an interesting option. I'd seen it mentioned in various online reviews and videos and frankly the cassette case accessory is also very cool: View: https://youtu.be/hKLDqqWipB4?si=R2jkS3AsMVVfAsIB It has me now wondering that IF I were to go down this route primarily for...

    Best compact headphone listening solution?

How does it work if you don't have a PC? My music is either streamed or physical vinyl (which isn't really DAP compatible!) I just use a Chromebook as my "laptop". I'd love a product where I can install and download music locally at maximum quality, in much the same way as I can on my mobile...

    Best compact headphone listening solution?

How do you transfer music onto a DAP? Can it all be done over WiFi through apps @Jasonovich ? Like it's treated as a separate on-network device? Ideally I'd like to just install the equivalent of TIDAL or Spotify Connect to the DAP and install locally.

    Best compact headphone listening solution?

Just rummaged about and found my dad's old DAP (Sony NWZ-ZX1) but it has no peripherals so I'm not quite sure how usable it is. As a minimum I need a propriety power cable as it looks like a funky input. There's a USB-B slot which I assume means you need to physically copy music over to it, but...

    Best compact headphone listening solution?

Humour me..... I quite like the idea of a DAP but don't really know what they are  I'd like a portable audio solution that I can either use on rare commutes into the office, or (more likely) in common wanders around the house into rooms where my current main systems aren't based. So: is...

    Appreciating your system

I like to think I'm done with chasing "better" sounding system components now. I'm getting plenty of satisfaction from my main and headphone setups and as an example, TIDAL recommended me a Welsh multi-instrumentalist earlier today called Gwenifer Raymond. I was able to listen to her on the main...

    National Album Day 2025 - 18th October

The full list is confirmed and is absolutely huge. However, I'm only potentially adding in an acoustic set from Turin Brakes to my earlier wish-listed The Cure album...

    National Album Day 2025 - 18th October

Another one of these events coming up in April and I'm almost certainly going to try and get hold of the acoustic album by The Cure: https://www.recordstoreday.co.uk/record-store-day-uk-exclusive-vinyl-releases-in-support-of-war-child

Question What's your next HiFi purchase?

That "Advanced MP3 Players" seller is where I got my FiiO DAC / Amp from. They seem to get their hands on a few good bits of FiiO kit and sell them on at fair prices.

Question Suggestions for foundational parts of a longer term vinyl setup

Thanks. I'm an ungrateful so-and-so who doesn't really like holidays to be honest, but I haven't been to Croatia before so I guess that's something to look forward to. A week off work regardless of the destination is always appreciated!

Question Suggestions for foundational parts of a longer term vinyl setup

Any reservations I had about spending a fair amount on Hi-Fi have just been instantly evaporated by my wife throwing the credit card around with reckless abandon when booking a holiday. Cost as much as my amp, speakers, turntable and streamer combined. One bloody week.

Question What's your next HiFi purchase?

Looking forward to hearing your impressions - are they arriving tomorrow?

Question What's your next HiFi purchase?

I think planars are just so different to dynamic drivers, so getting an inexpensive first pair to get a feel for just how different they sound makes a lot of sense. If you hate them, it won't be a financial disaster. If you love them, you can start planning the next steps up the range.
