I notice that the old Stanton cartridge has a weight that I removed held between the cartridge and the headshell...I guess this must be actually part of the headshell weighting element and I have not re-installed this small plate ?

After a long wait for the Audio Technica VM95ML Cartridge I finally am in process of installing it on the untested (sonically) Technics SL1200 mk2 which I recently bought. Ok..I have the cartridge 2 screws mounted & the wires attached. I have positioned the screws mid way in the Technics...

The guy in Madrid with the 1200sl mk2 ...560euro delivered ...the 1300 is 250 maybe for 220euro ...says the variable speed doesnt work but fixed speeds are ok .....I realise the 1300 is lesser as not as torqued motor , auto mechanism and poss 10+yrs older than the 1200sl less kudos too for...

Perhaps bargain it is not...but is 50% less or more than the current market price for 1200sl mkii which I did/do think is an upgrade on the Thorens TD280 MKII but again cannot be sure about that fact aurally ...I have ordered the AT VM95ML cartridge but there are delays with Audio Technica...

I have seen a Technics 1300 SL for sale near my home ...the auto deck from way back and it seems to be 100% perfect. For only 250euro or less is it worth an experience ? Yes it´s auto but it does share some the 1200 goodness and is very cheap . Maybe it´s better than my Thorens TD280 MKII ...

[For the time being I have purchased the VM95ML Cartridge ..it´s on order and maybe have it in a week or so delivered to my door . Should be interesting to see the results ....although I really wanted a new turntable that was superior to my Thorens TD280 mk2 ..maybe later on .

I was looking at the Audio Technica VM95ML or VM95SH ...the ML is a bt cheaper and lasts longer they say, but in any case they are 5 or 6 times the price of my current stylus so an improvement must be noticeable .

As a novice on the subject of turntables I was about to upgrade the cartridge on my old 1990´s Thorens TD280 mk2 . The existing cartridge is the cheap Audio Technica ATN91 . I did have some belt slip off issues but cleaned it with achohol which has remedied this for now but have read it can...
