Thanks for the advice so far. I have got the kind people at Audio T in Cardiff looking at the problem. It appears that this CD player is prone to blowing fuses and/or needing a software update. Perhaps I'm being too pessimistic, although the whole experience has left a nasty taste in the mouth.

Please can I ask you good people out there a question? In the event that my Audiolab 8200cd has gone to that great demo room in sky (after only two and a half years) I will need a replacement. NAD 546bee or Marantz cd 6005? I have the Audiolab 8200 amp (waiting for that to kick the bucket too...
