Qutest with the MCRU power supply

ya, they do. They dismiss gear based on measurements and graphs. They're into the "you don't need to audition product X, look at how it sounds" church. Ignoring the fact that real world usage rarely, if at all, mirrors Amir's (or anyone's, for that matter) measurement setup. People don't spend...

Qutest with the MCRU power supply

I'd argue "listening" to measurement graphs on ASR is the real joke.

    Mids harsh with Oberon 5s?

Oh, I was indeed thinking of inviting him over for something I actually DO have equipment for... OP can just get a pair of used TQ Black 2, listen with his own ears, and if they don't like it just move them on if they dont cure the problem, only losing postage money in the process. You know...

    4000€, for a tiny room..

Naim Atom (used) + used B&W PM1 if you can find a pair, if not, Neat Petite Classic, or Quad S2. If you don't mind the clutter of separates, the Atoll IN300 is a great recommendation. Rega Elex and Naim XS3 are also well worth looking into. But in a small room, I'd defo look at compact stuff...

    Mids harsh with Oberon 5s?

EDIT: answered in the wrong thread. But for you, I'd blame some of it on the speaker cable, I always found QED kind of overpowering in the top. Find a pair of sh Tellurium Q Black II (has to be II, not the first iteration).

If you had £600 to spend and needed some new speakers....?

    discounted or used Quad S2.

Best amp wattage for my setup

Not only that, some manufacturers defo tweak their sound, it's not just gain. Graph lovers hate non-neutral sounding stuff, music lovers just prefer their sound one way or the other. The listener's room also has a LOT to do with it too. So it's basically all a question of subjectivity and trial...

Best amp wattage for my setup

For the record, from my expreience, the pre-amp section is more important in shaping the sound than the power section, so I'd avoid just adding a power amp to the Sony, and carry on with the original plan of getting a new integrated, so you upgrade the whole shebang. Also, don't look too much...

Best amp wattage for my setup

Hi. For those speakers, I'd look at an Arcam Radia 25 or whatever it's called (or a used Arcam FMJ A 39, A29 or A38), or a Naim Nait XS 3 (or a used XS2). If you get any of the Naims, get Tellurium Q Black 2 speaker cable, if you go for Arcam, look at Chord Shawline (or Clearway) speaker...

    New Amp Suggestions

I'm not saying it's shy, I'm saying it lacks definition and drive. I found the bass even in the AS 3000 pretty wooly.

    New Amp Suggestions

Ya, but there's no version without. Besides, I doubt the Wiim won't benefit from the dac in the Hegel.

    New Amp Suggestions

No, it's the Yamahas, they suck at bass definition and... Well... Purposefulness :p @OP: I forgot to suggest Hegel, a H80 or H90 should also be brilliant for you.

    New Amp Suggestions

Hi. 1 - try to audition if you can, I know it sounds like "no advice", but it's actually "THE" advice. Secondly, as you can see in my signature, I use a Schiit Mani phonostage in a system that's way above it's corresponding budget, and I think it's a killer phonostage (at least aided by the...

Question First system for living-room/kitchen for EUR1K-EUR1.5K

For a space that difficult, I'd just go for Sonos or the likes, stuff you can mount on the wall. Don't get me wrong, you have a very nice entry level system, but it's extremely gimped by the sub-optimal (to say the least) positioning.

    Question B&W 706

Was just about to suggest starting a new thread myself. As for your particular question, if the speakers are new, I'd suggest leaving them on for a few hours, playing music, and only decide after a day or two (10 hours roughly). Also, I don't know about your source, but your amp is definitely a...
