    Pioneer 428XD or 4280XD?

This topic has been covered before. Rather than wait for people to reply I suggest you put your question in the search box (or try here, here or here) and you should get a wealth of information straight away. I am a little surprised though - the 428 is usually more expensive than the 4280.

    headphones sound rubbish

Built-in headphone amps are usually an after thought - a simple op-amp circuit barely suitable for driving any kind of loudspeaker, even the tiny ones found in headphones. According to the Sennheiser website, your HD465s are 32 ohm, which makes them fairly hard to drive and might explain why...

    How do you pronounce teac?

Did I just land on the TopGear forum? (Spot the intercap - thanks Clare) So, to get back to the point, Rega - ree-gah or rey-gah? Or reggae, even? I understand that anyone over 32 would have been taught the correct pronunciation in school. But I'm 31 so just missed-out. Oh, and any takers...

    Ploblem with interconnect

Ah, an interconnect question. I hope you're made out of asbestos... First, the science: The main virtue of a balanced connection is improved immunity against interference and so, in this respect, you can expect a 'better' sound - the noise-floor should be much lower. Now for the voodoo: It...

    TV ariel and installation

And as you're in a flat, make sure that the aerial doesn't serve any other residents before you start making changes.

    TV ariel and installation

I'm not an expert on the subject but I understand that freeview requires a 'wide-band' aerial. That's not to say that an old aerial would not work at all, and your existing aerial may already be of the correct type anyway. If the wiring is in place and there's no risk of falling off the roof...

    Tacima CS929

If I was in your position I'd be looking to get the thing apart and fit a longer lead. Probably not helpful, and no liability accepted re. electrocution, but you did ask for an opinion.

Meridian 506.24/Meridian 507 CD players - much of a difference?

For the 507 (and flagship 588) Meridian ditched their established whole-mechanism-slides-out-type transport in favour of an outsourced cd-rom drive. While their reasoning was logical - the player could read ahead, and even re-read, on-the-fly - it marked a build-quality change that existing...

    Pioneer PDP-428XD buzzing

Have a look at your 'power save' settings - low energy modes can cause or exaggerate buzzing. I gather this is because things are turned on and off rapidly, rather than just being left on. It might help, it might not.

    Beyerdynamic VS Grado

Hi Nathplummer. I see your post is nearly two weeks old, but if you're still interested I'll try to help. Put simply, yes both Grado and Beyerdynamic make excellent headphones. Which you'll prefer is really down to your own taste. I can't comment on the Beyer DT770 specifically, but I have a...

    limits of interconnect length?

If you like QED you can get Qunex 2 up to 15m in length. £70 for 5m from HiFi Cables, so not exactly cheap.

Extending Speaker Cable - What Connectors..?

As Mr Smith says, silver solder has a higher melting point. In my experience even a high-power electric soldering iron isn't up to the job - a gas flame is really the only way to go. In which case be very wary of the cable insulation melting (or even burning). To approach this from a...

Not enough inputs on new 428XD TV!

I know exactly where you're coming from, I didn't realise this was the case until I saw a Pioneer remote - four inputs. Does anyone out there know if all current TVs are like this, or is it just a Pioneer thing? As for getting around it I'm going to agree with Alsone - a dedicated AV amplifier...

    Pioneer PDP428xd problem

Assuming you haven't already fixed this, I think the idea is to set the screen refresh rate as a direct multiple of the source frame rate. In other words, for 50hz TV broadcasts set screen to 100Hz, for 25fps standard def DVD use 75Hz, and for 24fps HD/BD sources use 72Hz. Assuming the setup...

Tearing my hair out over annoying speaker buzz - please help !

I'm going to agree with the consensus here and suggest you try swapping-out your amp first. A couple of other things spring to mind too. Are there any other devices plugged in to the same socket as your hi-fi - such as lamps with dimmers, fridges/freezers or industrial machinery ? If so try...
