Yes it does affect the sound quality. Some people may not be able to (or refuse to) hear a difference, but I certainly can. I have two sets of speaker cables here that would clearly demonstrate the differences. Maybe suprisingly, the more expensive (silver conductors) sound worse than a cheaper...
