it could be your room/room size, speaker positioning or stands, u can try placing the speakers at floor or at the middle of the room and check if you get a better balance

hi i would suggest for Rock/Metal music you should shortlist equipment which are reviewed as 'well timed, having good rhythmic drive, not bright or lean', for me these are the basics. As for budget amps most preferred would be Exposure or Nad amps, havent heard AS500 though. For speakers Dali...

for me for rock/metal the entire setup should have good bass extention with the right balance, well timed, agile and fast, open coherent sound, if these attributes are there even a small speaker at low volume sounds engaging. think Dynaudios would be better choice than Monitor audios or Kefs...

i guess the DM 2/7 will have more low end extention and punch than the Rx1?
