    Hi-Fi Glossary of Terms

My favourite acronym (sadly, now dying out) is SCART - Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorécepteurs et Téléviseurs I do have the sad habit of expanding acronyms to their original forms e.g. Kentucky Fried Chicken, British Home Stores, Mullard Furniture Industries (RIP)...

Erratic speaker driver movement from vinyl

Onkyo probably has a lower low-frequency cut-off than the Marantz. This means record surface warp frequencies (a few Hertz) are being amplified. I wouldn't worry unless your speaker drivers are hitting the end stops. You need a rumble filter button - like Sinclair amps in the 1970s had...

    Anthem 225 Integrated Amp

My only feedback is that as an unknown brand, it will be harder to re-sell if you wanted to upgrade.

Daft question, but why are Linn products so expensive?

Linn's brand and business model don't fit with the low end. Time for them to segment the market and come up with a mass-market brand that leverages the technology at a lower price - e.g. Toyota vs. Lexus or Volkswagen vs. Bentley. Probably manufactured in the Far East. Although I'm sure I...

Daft question, but why are Linn products so expensive?

Their market position is as an aspirational, high-end brand and their pricing helps reinforce this. Their reputation for product quality and great dealer service is strong enough to support this pricing.

    Linn Kiko

Isn't the characteristic of a "lifestyle" product that you can deconstruct it and come up with something better sounding and at least as functional for the same money? The "lifestyle" benefit is the integration and the sleek-looking packaging. Speaking as a geek, this definitely isn't for me -...

Yes, HD Tracks have been enforcing location for a while. Haven't got round to using a US proxy yet but assume that would work.

dCS Debussy review and digital sound quality

Kevin - Great piece. I think you're bang on about the studio being responsible for a lot of what goes wrong. Case in point: Rush's latest album "Clockwork Angels". Super-compressed and mastered to the CD at such high levels that there is a huge amount of clipping - e.g. 2810 clips on the...

    Dansette?

How about ripping all the 45s to your laptop and playing them from that? - would preserve their condition.

Intel WiDi and Samsung WiFi Direct

My HP Folio Ultrabook laptop has Intel WiDi wireless display. Will this work with my Samsung UE32ES6300 TV which has WiFi Direct? What's the difference between WiDi and WiFi Direct? Whatever happened to DLNA compatibility?
