The best I've heard them at home was with an Ayre AX-7E, very impressive.
Other amps they have been paired with Hegel H80, Harman Kardon HK990, Densen DM20 & DM30, no slouches either, but the Ayre was clearly the better amp.
You really can't go wrong with the Neumann's. I absolutely adore mine!
Also, the care that Neumann has put in the documentation, measurements and manual is very reassuring for the quality of the speaker you're buying.
Focal Solo's should be a step up, but then again that's to be expected for...
Indeed, unless really badly designed, I don't believe DAC's make an audbile difference in all but the most resolving ultra high-end systems, and even then...
Event Opal were no doubt the "best". But on my current speakers I enjoy music far more because they're more suitable for my room ... + imaging & neutrality is better than on the Opals.
Word. I'm not trying to diss the HiFi world, but things have gotten out of control and the prices asked for the performance offered are just ridiculous.
Really enjoying my Neumann KH120 A's , soundstaging, detail & bass are quite phenomenal for a speaker of this size.
