The problem with hi-res audio is how you might be listening to it

There's an error in the article. The ALAC format is fully documented and royalty free, and many non-apple devices (I would say nearly every device manufactured today) supports it.

    Abrahamsen audio amp v2.0

Indeed it will get noisier, esp 50Hz noise. So, unless you really need the power ebcause you have a very large room (so you are listeinng at some distance anyway) or speakers with very low sensitivity (say around 83 Db/w/m over 8Ohm) and difficult to drive, esp in the lower range with some...

    Abrahamsen V2.0 UP Integrated Amp.

Warm-up: yes and no. In the audiophile world of today you do not sound credible if you do not write something like that. The difference however, is there. It does sound better warmed up a bit, mostly because of "capacitor forming" which is a real fact. The sound becomes cleaner, and it gains a...

    Abrahamsen V2.0 UP Integrated Amp.

I am a happy owner of the V3.0UP/V4.0UP combo. I can tell you that the sound is stunning for its price bracket, and would be also if the price were doubled. If it is trebled, you encroach Supernait 2 territory, and the latter would soundly beat the Abrahamsens. I expect the V2.0UP to be not...

Official Abrahamsen V2.0UP Amplifier review in HiFiWigwam

I am not sure I follow you, but I am not a native speaker of the idiom of albion, so some subtleties may have excaped me. Oh, blimey!

    Balanced XLR cables advice please

The Rega DAC has a Maximum output level = 2.175V into 100KΩ load (unbalanced) and the Abrahamsen DAC 1.6V (I guess into the load of an Abrahamsem pre, that should me 110KΩ load, hence substantially the same). This would correspond to your experience. Also, use a balanced XLR connection to...

Official Abrahamsen V2.0UP Amplifier review in HiFiWigwam

Call me snob or superficial, but for that amount of money I demand some level of build quality and outer design uniqueness that may be redundant, call it even useless, and logical order in internal construction that also goes with the price tag. These are aspects I do not see in the picture you...

Official Abrahamsen V2.0UP Amplifier review in HiFiWigwam

I am not sure this can be done. The pre out is a Tape output and IIRC it is not attenuated, but on order you can have it attenuated as well. So in theory you could use it do drive a power amp but it may have a different output level than the internal "output" of the preamp stage to the power amp...

Remark: I am not Kostku, and the email quoted below is from me. Also, i did not give permission to publish it in its entirety - but you have edited it according to my siggestions, which have now my approval, and all is ok :-) (It is not difficult to realise who "iQ speakers" is and find the...

    Abrahamsen amplifiers

Yup it seems that we have been "conflated" by mistake. I have some tips to give re: buzzing transformers, but maybe we should talk offline (disclaimer: I have nothing to sell). Hm. I am on twitter (DogeMocenigo). Roberto

    Abrahamsen amplifiers

I forgot to comment on this. The volume control uses relays and resistors. It is actually sonically better than a potentiometer, in my opinion, but it is normal that you can hear faint clicks when the relays are operated. The loudness of the clicks depends on the sensitivity of the speakers. I...

    Abrahamsen amplifiers

Oh right. I should have guessed it. Yep, as I told Colin on the phone, I just have to laugh at this because it is just insane: If I take a voltmeter, and keep the two probes straight in front of me, the numbers just spin like crazy. Roberto

    Abrahamsen amplifiers

Just to avoid misunderstand. What I meant here is that I listen most of the time just 2 meters from the speakers, because my listening room is small, and despite this I cannot hear background noise or hum from the amp or the speakers. In fact, i can get much closer while hearing no noise. Roberto
