    Free to a good home

Hi Andrew, I've only just seen this post. Are they still available? If so, I'll take them off your hands. I'm in Preston, so not far from you. Cheers, Mike.

Am I the youngest vinyl lover? How old are you?!

I'm not young anymore, but was brought up on vinyl, and it's still my format of choice. I wrote a blog post all about the joys of LPs last year..... http://michaelfoley.webs.com/apps/blog/show/17496032-why-we-need-vinyl- :)

What vinyl are you listening to?

This evenings LP is The Flower Kings "Banks of Eden". I reviewed this album for Metaltalk.net, and was sent an MP3 to review from. I really struggled to hear into the mix, and was finding it difficult to write the review, even though I enjoyed the music. On a whim I bought the LP/CD package from...

So, do all amplifiers sound the same?

I don't think that they sound different. They do sound different. I have ears and use them to determine the differences.

Do amplifiers sound the same? No they don't. I am sorry to be rude, but what a silly question.

    Pink Floyd Reissues

I have the new WYWH LP, and it was pressed off centre, and this is my 3rd copy. The other two were really bad, this copy is adequate. I won't be bothering with any of the others. My DSoTM is an early 80's pressing and plays fine, with no noise or distortion. I had a 70's WYWH, and it was a great...

What do you think of this combination???

That sounds a good system, especially for the budget. All fine items. The A400 in particular will support several future upgrades in the speaker and turntable departments before it becomes the weak link.

Praise & shame - rate your new vinyl here

I must get that new Harrison LP. I do have the CD, bought because the shop only had that, and I wanted it there and then! The last LP I bought is The Rival Sons "Pressure & Time". Much punchier than the already decent sounding CD, and a nice flat quiet pressing.

What was your best bargain in hi-fi?

Marantz CD63 KI Sig for £49.00 from Cash Convertors Toshiba HD EX1 HD-DVD player £39.95 Cash Concertors. (I know it's a dead format, but I picked up a pile of discs dirt cheap when everyone was offloading their discs, so It's my gain, their loss!) Technics SL1210-II for nothing from freecycle...

Praise & shame - rate your new vinyl here

£17.99 does sound a bit steep. I bought Barton Hollow from my local shop, and I think it was £15.00. It also came with a download voucher. No complaints about my pressing, so maybe you were unlucky.

I can recommend the new Black Country Communion album 'Live Over Europe". Nice flat, quiet pressing. Volume needs whacking up a bit on the amp though, as it is not a 'loud' pressing. Also it's a double live, in a gatefold sleeve, just like they used to make in the good old days. :) Beach Boys...

    Advice for Brother in Law

If he does not have a system, why not suggest something like this, plus a pair of decent speakers. Better than other all in one systems. although not very retro looking. http://www.henleydesigns.co.uk/product.asp?shop=0&ProductID=649
