A new system for £857 what are you buying?

It has streaming built in, so you do have a source. The only issue being that any LSXII variant is suited to smaller rooms.

    CD - a dated format???

Funny how CD is 'dated' when vinyl users have to deal with replacing and setting up cartridges, cleaning records, storing them, prevent against humidity etc etc.

Spotify HiFi is nearly here, this leak suggests

I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm a LiAV(!) and the future is Not Vinyl or CD, it's DAC / Streaming, what do yo think?

What you say can be true of any DAC at any price. And when you say it offers nothing, well you haven't heard it either, have you? I still stand by my comments.

I'm a LiAV(!) and the future is Not Vinyl or CD, it's DAC / Streaming, what do yo think?

It's all subjective, personally I find it attractive and it stands out because it's a functional control. Having a standalone DAC is indulgent, so why not make an object attractive to look at and use? I find this kind of nitpicking extremely petty and common here unfortunately, especially...

It happens with me too, sometimes you're just used to something that works well.

Tidal now offers so much more, now that they have just one paid tier that includes everything, Don't know how expensive their family plan is compared to Spotify though. But for me it's now a no-brainer. On my side for not a cent more, I now have access to high-res (previously limited to CD...

The usual nonsense. Spotify have just announced record earnings. For them of-course, not necessarily the artists. Yes, DACs all sound the same, naturally. And we all have the same tastes in men or women. And everything under the sun is the same, eh twinkletoes?

    Spotify music only tier.

Tidal now hardly costs any more than Spotify, and high res/MQA/Dolby Atmos is all available to you. For the music lover Spotify really has nothing going for it now.

    Spotify music only tier.

Tidal has now one tier with the highest resolution. Don't know why anyone would want to pay for Spotify now.

Building a hi-fi system? Here's the secret to matching the right components

What Ketan describes is an ever unreachable utopia where on my side bricks and mortar hifi stores are all but gone. That leaves only common sense and luck, and with some reassurance to return the equipment if you're not happy.

    Network streaming devices

Personally I would investigate the ifi Zen Stream, as opposed to the usual suspects like Bluesound

    Wiim Ultra

I've always said that a DAC chip is not the end all of a device, but clearly many purchasers of the Pro and Plus are not connecting to an external DAC. The most 'muddled' Wiim product for me is the Amp - the amp section is now widely understood to be compromised once pushed anything towards its...

    Wiim Ultra

It's not muddled. Many DAC/Streamers can operate as a preamp too. Example is the Cambridge Audio CXN 100. Or a multitude of others. The selling point of the Ultra is the superior DAC chip over Wiim's other streamers. 349 quid does seem a bit high though, but the proof is in the hearing.

Is the resurgence of vinyl LP's a fad?

You don't need SACD or Blu-ray for 192/24 bit. In face SACD is not 192/24, its DSD format. You can stream or purchase 192/24 high res music
