It seems like the model I have doesn't have the phono switch on the base some other primary Es have. Does this mean I need to buy a phono stage?

Yep that's the one! I have it plugged into PCin as it comes through a bit louder that way, though I can here it through both. My turntable instructions just say that line input isn't suitable though I'm not sure which that is :/
