It's Record Store Day tomorrow (Saturday 12th April, 2025) - any plans?

Well, marketing needs an objective. And the objective here is not to 'convert people to analogue'. It's to get people in bricks and mortar stores and onto the habit of browsing the racks rather than shopping online. If one has a negative experience of RSD the brand that suffers is 'Record...

I have similar listening habits to you and love my Roksan K3 pair (CD plus amp) which you may be able to audition at Richer's though they say stock is limited...

It's Record Store Day tomorrow (Saturday 12th April, 2025) - any plans?

Why the sniffiness about marketing? Sure it's a marketing "ploy" (makes it sound more evil that way doesn't it?). It's designed to get you into your local independent record store, and hopefully make a habit of it, rather than buy online. And the problem with that is what, exactly?

Feeling up. Stirs a memory somewhere.

    Go Back to CD?

Yup. I have a tape deck and it can sound phenomenally good. With a tape that's survived intact. I keep mine cos I have an old collection but wouldn't recommend anybody starting from scratch. The medium is too fragile and you really need to spend a lot to get a top refurbished machine. I do...

Separate Crystalline Clock Boxes, do the Noughts and Ones add up?

The little I can gather on the interweb may be summarised as saying that the external clock better be amazingly good as siting it at the end of a cable intrinsically injects more jitter than one that's on board. Since I'm happy with my CD player I think I'll be sitting this one out.

    Go Back to CD?

It's a delicious irony that a digital music afficionado is starting to sound like a broken record.

    Go Back to CD?

Well I think there's something going on here. The Clock is genuinely A Thing that does impact sound quality. So the unbundling of read (transport) and translate (DAC) opens up another profit opportunity- the clock. I predict more clock boxes coming up. Upgradeitis will have another shelf to...

Oh come come you are swimming in the shallow end. https://hifonix.co.uk/detail/dcs-rossini-clock/?attribute_pa_color=black&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqcO_BhDaARIsACz62vPDcROgjWaM_4nmnOduSrHtXVC9I9KN6oIB1RbGcx9ynzRpeSmjt1MaAtqiEALw_wcB

    Go Back to CD?

In your evidently extensive side by side tests of CD transports, in how many cases was the master clock on the transport and in how many cases on the DAC? Asking for a friend.

I've got two, which probably shows my age.

    Speaker cable

Multistranded copper cable of any description tbh. Multistranded because high frequency AC (that's music to you and me) suffers what's called the surface effect which means you want lots of surface. Copper because it's the VFM way of carrying current. Others here have mentioned Van Damme and...

Made to measure 2M/1210MK2 cartridge shim/spacer.

This makes it out to be relatively simple View: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxXhXLBWRAk . Certainly a lot easier than my linn basik plus which is an Allen lock nut push and pull job.

Made to measure 2M/1210MK2 cartridge shim/spacer.

It wouldn't make much of a difference to elliptical styli as their contact on the groove wall is a point (a tangent to the ellipse). VTA comes into play with line contact (ML or Shibata) as they are supposed to have a vertical line contact with the groove wall. So your experiments may be...
