If you want to digitise you could try an RCA to 3 mill headphone jack adapter, plug tape deck 'out' into a PC and capture with Audacity. I've made decent takes off vinyl that way to play on my phone.

I replaced my defunct Technics with a Nak (not as fine as @nopiano 's example - a mere 482Z) just to play my old stuff, and now some cassettes inherited from my sister. It's true what they say - try Nak and you'll never go back. Or I think that's what they say my hearing isn't what it was...

AUX to your tape deck's 'out' or 'output'. Pre-out to your tape deck's 'in' or 'input' or 'record in'. The level of the stuff you are recording will vary with the volume setting of the receiver now, so start low and turn up slowly. Select 'Aux' to hear a cassette.

Yeah those lagom guys will make any size you want. I'm getting a five shelf unit with all custom sizes. But it's really about the style that suits you.
