Smsl M300 mii VS Zen DAC Signature

Another thing about the E30 is it has no XLR out, which I'd want if I later want to add a separate headphone amp. I wouldn't want to have to keep unplugging the power amp, to plug in the headphone amp. I like the look of the pre90, but it's a bit pricey atm. If I add it in later, I'd want the...

Smsl M300 mii VS Zen DAC Signature

"only the Signature model is supposed to be tuned for particular headphones, the standard one isn't." Cheers Al ears, sorry I wasn't being clear. I was after DAC recommendations, unless I'm missing something reasonably well priced and with a great headphone amp as well. " For just a DAC I...

Smsl M300 mii VS Zen DAC Signature

Yeah, at least it's on the back. On the NAD it's the main headphone out connector. And this is the clincher, I only just realised the Zen has no optical. A few years ago, I upgraded my PC and decided optical (cd/dvd) drives are behind us, and so got a case without space. Now my car has no CD...

Smsl M300 mii VS Zen DAC Signature

Hi Tinman. Thanks for replying, it's much appreciated. I have a remote for my Technics pre amp, and it's really handy, just for volume up and down. Also (and this is a small point) the Zen relies on a pentacon 4.4mm for balanced out, which breaks much more easily than xlr or full size jack. My...

Smsl M300 mii VS Zen DAC Signature

I was looking for a good portable DAC/headphone amp combo for my second system, hoping to find something to drive all headphones and feed a power amp. I've since decided I will probably get a desktop decent DAC with volume control for my main system, and take my NAD DAC/headphone amp for my...

Question Portable DAC for Dt1770 pro

Hi, Most of my system is at my girlfriend's place as she has lots of space. I've got myself a little one up one down type of tiny cottage. All my focus has always been on my home setup. I've got a spare Technics power amp with headphone out, and that got me thinking; If I had a DAC here, I...

Has IT plateaued to a certain extent?

In terms of plateuing, they got a bit stuck on cpu speed. When that started to happen, the manufacturers started adding cores, essentially making PCs multi processor computers. They now have many. To begin with, Windows wasn't good with multiple cores, and applications didn't make use of the...

    True wireless headphones...

I wonder if the Fiio Q5 is any good. It certainly looks pretty nifty. It's a portable headphone amp/dac combo. So if you've got wired headphones you like, you can use them with it. You can transmit to it via bluetooth, which could be handy. And you can use it on the go. I haven't heard it. I...

    best value streamer, suggestions please?

I bought Audirvana for the PC. Got USB to my DAC. I already had the DAC and PC. My PC plugs into my telly, in the living room. I use it for Netflix and Amazon viewing, and the kids play games and even use it for homework. You can get alternatives to Audirvana. Some have a mobile app that lets...

    Pre-amp alternative

It hasn't done it again. Further investigation required. I did find that the balance is behaving strangely. It doesn't cross fade smoothly or consistently, from left to right. There is a dirty connection (static like) sound at the extreme left (anticlockwise). I guess I should take the lid off...

    Pre-amp alternative

Thanks for your help in trouble shooting. I'm listening to a 1khz tone on repeat. I've got the balance all the way to the right. So far its once gone silent. Switching source made no difference. I tried everything. It came back on after I turned the balance knob. I'm waiting for the tone to go...

    Pre-amp alternative

I'm sure I have, but I can't remember. It seemed like all the drivers in the speaker stay on when it occurs. I tend to notice it most if I'm streaming from the PC, via the DAC. I struggle to hear what the actors are saying and don't notice until it comes back and I can hear again. It can work...

    Pre-amp alternative

It has got tone defeat. I never use the tone controls. There's no way to avoid the balance control, which would be good. I never use that either. There are no static noises. I get the old equipment, background "shhhh", but only if I turn it up pretty loud. That's not coming from the NAD amp. I...

    Pre-amp alternative

It's an Su-C1000M2. I never got around to replacing the battery. I've got the matching power amp. The amp needs it's LEDs replacing in the VU meters. The Technics amp is just sitting around. I've been using the Technics pre with my NAD amp. It's second output goes to my active sub.

    Pre-amp alternative

Switch cleaner seemed like it helped a bit, for a little while. But there was no obvious place to spray it in anywhere.
