There is no fundamental rrason why a modern turntable/cartridge shouldn't work quite acceptaby with 40+ year old amp and speakers. However, there are a couple of things to bear in mind;
Connections - what connections does your amp have? I used to have an A&R Cambridge A60 from the late 70's...
How do you know if it's the 2005 release? My copy, which sounds pretty good, says Newly Remastered with new sleeve notes etc on it but has 1996 copyright all over it, no mention of 2005 that I can see, but I can't remember exactly when I got it.
HD bitrates have been reduced all round, BBC HD on Virgin cable is nowhere near as good as it was when I first got a HD telly about a year ago, no matter what the BBC claim.
My in-laws have Freesat, and once I'd set it to 1080i for them, rather than 576i the idiot who'd installed it had left it at, SD and HD picture quality is very good, up there with what I get on Virgin V+. Talking of which have you considered going that way?
I've got Virgin V+, can't say I've studied it much this week or know if the lower bitrate affects it or just Sky HD, but have to agree that this week's Coast looked barely HD. It is nice to see they're finally getting some more HD channels though.
Anyway, if there is a problem with bandwidth on...
Just had a look, all there but a couple of them were obviously SD content, Amy Winehouse on MTVN looked HD, pity it doesn't improve her looks!
About time Virgin got more HD content, as the system is good. Roll on C4, ESPN and hopefully more.
