Amazon Prime. Any suggestions why I experience mystifying poor picture quality on some series

Thanks for your feedback. Fortunately with the exception of these 3 series there has been no problems. I guess if it happens with more content in the future it might be something to check when I do need to replace the TV.

Amazon Prime. Any suggestions why I experience mystifying poor picture quality on some series

I'm a bit stumped why just a few series on Amazon Prime have really jerky almost unwatchable quality. The series I have encountered this with have been The Night Manager, the second series of Grand Tour and In the Thick of it. In contrast to HD films and series which are faultless the problems...

Disappointing sound from mishmash set up...

Hi Jez I'm not sure where you live but unless you are living on the Shetlands or similar I would recommend searching out your nearest Hifi dealer who is prepared to listen to you and work with your budget. If you don't get decent service move on to another. If you want a cracking stereo and...

    Mono or Stereo

I've tried the box set with various cartridge and turntable options and here are some comments that might give you some ideas about your own options. The first thing to mention are the early 60's rock genre mono pressings general strengths. They avoid the rather strange choices of stereo...

    Mixing Vintage and Modern Equipment

For what its worth, the M75shure cartridge/ N75type 2 stylus you mention I rate highly and continue to use using a jico replacement stylus. Most after market styluses for this cartridge are around £15 and ok but the jico version costs around £38 including import costs and sounds great it is very...

    Mono switch on amplifier

Can you let us know how succesfull you find the purist, one speaker approach. I did consider a seperate one speaker system for mono. I settled for adapting my 2 speaker system, first using a mono phonoamp switch then more recently a dedicated mono cartridge using detachable head shells. For...

    Pro-Ject Debut 3SE 78rpm

I used to have a debut and did consider the system you chose as a way to play my Dads 78's. In the end I was put off by comments that such a light weight turntable set up was not ideal for 78's. I went for a Lenco GL75 using the Shure cartridge supplied which has easily removed styluses...

    Harold Moores Records

I was gutted to find this week on a trip to London with an afternoon reserved for record shopping that Harold Moores Records was shut with an ominous sign in the window indicating this was for the forseeable future due to internal issues. The website is still up and not giving any details but I...

    3 speed turntable

The pathway I took when I inherited my dad's 78 is the kendo Gl75. You get the 3 speeds plus the option of changeable headshellls and the stock cartridge shure that came with many of the 75's you can still get replaceable stylus on eBay that are for 78's for a few quid and they sound fine. I...

    Digital scales

Dynavector 10x5 homc of mine while using digital scales launched itself at the scales sticking to it. Once removed cantilever was toast and when lowered on to record it just collapsed. Too expensive to repair. Model was CR-H/HA generic digital scales bought through a hifi online shop which did...

stylus pressure gauges and how to use them

There is one area potentially costly problem area with cheap OEM digital scales which is that some of them can interact with moving coils through magnetic forces. I found this to my cost when measuring the tracking force on my Dynavector 10x5 a few years back, all of a sudden the cartridge...

How old were you when you bought your first record player/turntable.

I found this image online of the type of Philips upright record player I got for I think my 14th Birthday. Scary looking beast but actually didn't sound too bad and looked after my records from the time which have all survived pretty well.

    HMV

I know there is no real connection but as I have some lovely pressings from the 1960's and some 1940's 78's by HMV I do still retain some affection for Nipper. Lovely to see them shifting a bit of vinyl again, so far I've got Led Zeppelin 1 and 2 for £9.99 each and they are good pressings, also...

Question: Having a much better hi fi sounds bad with your cd collection?

I think there are two issues. The first is down to personal choice and philosophy over whether someone wants hifi to be a bit warm and forgiving with less than perfect recordings or whether someone considers this a cop out and not true reproduction. I am definitely of the first camp and built...

The Beatles in Mono LPs - digital compression?

One possible explanation for the poor experience you have had with Pepper could be sibilance effecting the quality of the vocals? In contrast to the 2009 remasters where there was a lot of electronic tidying up of the high amount of sibilance on the original recordings the mono masters have gone...
