The only way you can get 5.1 Dolby digital sound through sky is by connecting an optical lead from the sky box to the Yahama. You only get stereo sound if you use the HDMI for sound for sky. Sorry I must have been typing this reply as the comment above was being sent.

I also have mine set up in the corner of a rectangular room with a settee also very close and it works beautifully. I previously had a Sony all in one which was good for the price, but I think the Yahama is in a different league.

You need to make sure in the sky settings sound section that the digital audio output is set to Dolby Digital and that you are using the audio inputs on the Yahama and not hdmi for sound for sky.
