    Illegal file downloaders are the biggest spenders

    pretty much my experience too. But i have also noticed a shift away from illegal downloading, to listening to music for free on youtube amongst many people who found illegal downloading too complicated

    Holidays from hifi?

    i never miss my music when on holiday, i take an ipod and headphones :) but one of the first things i do after getting home is play a fave song very very loud on my dj setup :D

    over long runs maybe, short runs no. one cable 100m the other 2m could cause some small issues , but over such short distances it makes no difference to the sound and has no potential to damage anything. however, i do always have equal lengths, but only for the reason that i may move my system...

    why does it matter where things are made anyway? if a chinese hi-fi company moved their production to the uk, creating lots of uk jobs and inwards investment, would that be seen as a disgrace in any way to any one? globalisation works 2 ways, lots of foreign companies create jobs in the uk...

    speaker cable doesnt have to be equal lengths, one 6m and one 2m will be fine, save some money.

    Tone controls....taboo?

    even if a perfect system could be achieved, odds are it wont be in a perfect room. tone controls are very usefull for adjusting your system to sound best in your room.

    Very (very) new to this. Looking for budget speakers.

    small active monitors would be a good way to go. easy to transport, good value for money and good for getting involved with music production. all of my uni mates had active speakers as opposed to an amp and speaker combo :) oh and they generally go louder :) maybe something like these...

    Tv license.......Shambles

    one of the uni halls of residence in my city got done over by the tv licensing people and the uni... there was a fire drill one morning in february, while all the students were outside half asleep uni halls staff took a few tv licensing guys around, to check which rooms had a tv... uni staff...
