Review Bowers & Wilkins P7 - Still a fantastic set of cans

Thanks for the tip, I'd forgotten about those and that is a nice price. Unfortunately webuy is not an option for me as I don't live in the UK.

Review Bowers & Wilkins P7 - Still a fantastic set of cans

I agree, also still really happy with my P7. They are still great, except the carrying pouch has detoriated, which I didn't expect. I'm currently looking for a new wired headphone of similar quality, which has proven quite difficult. Most companies indeed have gone the wireless/ANC route. I'd...

Small 2.1 amp setup as alternative to PC speakers?

For speakers you could look at the Dali Zensor series, the smallest ones are cheap and they are available in white. They're nice. Also, the smallest Q Acoustics are reviewed well and are cheap.

    Looking for PC Desktop Amplifier

I may have overlooked this, but did he really say that the speakers would be on the bookshelf or floor? As far as I can see he only stated: This suggest that the bookshelf speakers will be on his desk, but admittedly this is not entirely clear. Your smilie still seems somewhat hastily posted.

    Looking for PC Desktop Amplifier

In addition to my previous post: - I would take into account that at close range (near-field listening) it is important that the set also works well at low volume. You may easily find yourself listening for hours on end behind your desk, and it is not a good idea to do so even at medium volume...

    Looking for PC Desktop Amplifier

I've been in a similar situation several years ago. If I understand you correctly, you will use the speakers on your desk, probably left and right of a computer monitor? Some other questions, which may be relevant: - What is your room size? When I started out I used a Sony UDA-1 which worked...

Tidal / Gapless playback & various streamers

When I tested it on my Bluesound Node last year it did do gapless playback, see https://www.whathifi.com/forum/hi-fi/qobuz-vs-tidal?page=1. I haven't noticed any changes in that respect. I never check when I play an album whether it would need gapless or not, but I think I have played...

Heard/Unheard Hi-Fi kit and giving opinions

If we allow only actual double-blind test comparisons, discussions will get brief and boring. Personally I don't mind comparisons by memory, educated guesses based on objective data (such as driver size), repeating (with reference) reviews and other's opinions, and aesthetic opinions on the...

Small speakers : Advice to buy

Amazon.com seems to deliver these speakers to Europe. So it should be possible to obtain them, if it is these speakers you want. If the added cost is the problem, this means your budget is so small that I wonder whether you should actually buy new or aim at anything HiFi. Some cheap speakers...

Is hifi worth what it costs

lindsayt, nice overview. However, it misses how actual businesses have to work if they want to avoid bankruptcy. You focus, it appears, on the material costs at the expense of design, overhead (including management), profit margin, marketing costs. As has been discussed here in the past, and in...

    New Nord integrated

Good point, hadn't thought about simplicity of manufacture. Still I personally also prefer an amp without display. Incidentally, Colin: the link to your website in your signature is incorrect, it has a comma after www

    Soundstage challenge

Personally I'm more a classical music fan. For testing soundstage I'd listen, for example, to: - Bach, Brandenburg concerto's, such as no 5, first movement, or no 4, first movement. I've got the Dunedin Consort (Linn recording) - Vivaldi, L'Estro Armonico, concerto no. 11 for 2 violins and...

    Soundstage challenge

Tom Jones 'Praise and Blame (as mentioned by JonathanRD Friday 16:18) indeed sounds to me like he described. Led Zeppelin "No Quarter" (mentioned by insider9, Friday 17:09): starts with synthetic sounds to the left, then bass notes in the center, and later drum slightly right of center...

    Soundstage challenge

Money for nothing: Starting from 2:00: Bass seems to be in the middle, possibly slightly to the left. The distorted guitar is clearly to the left (later on it seems to come from both speakers). Strangely it seems as if the bass is placed lower than the drums, which appear slightly more to the...

    cd player cleaner

If it doesn't read some CDs the laser unit might be in need of realignment. This appears to be something that occurs with Marantz CD players. I googled for it when I had the same issue with my Marantz, and with the aid of some explanation I did manage to fix this myself. Of course that voided...
