AVi for me. The DM10’s with the Sub tick all my boxes. I have the DM5’s hooked up to the TV (you‘ll need a pre-amp). I’d love to tell you what the ADM40’s sound like with the upgraded tweeters but my father has had them on permanent loan for several years. Keep your eyes peeled on ebay!

...and a small update, a few years on. I have just bought a pair of AVi DM10's. They're presently perched on top of my ADM 40's. I'm listening to Penguin Cafe Orchestra's first album and it sounds outstanding. Now to move house so the DM10's can have their own room. :)

I did all this myself, DM, before I came upon AVi; so it is genuinely interesting to find someone going the other way. First I bought the the Cyrus CD6, then upwards and onwards for three years, ending up with x2 Mono X's, a CD8 SE, a PreVs2 and x4 PSX-R's. And that's before the bloody speakers...

I listen to a lot of these and would recommend giving Active speakers a try-out. I have the ADM 40's by AVi and have been very happy with them. And all for substantially less than $15,000!

Tannoy DC8. Looked nice, sounded crap. Should have stuck with my Monitor Audio GS10's.

I would go for active speakers, which tend to be less fussy than passives about placement and funny-shaped rooms.

Susie, I would certainly recommend a pair of AVI speakers. They have their own built-in amps and are superb with Classical music. I was lucky enough to hear the new 'baby' speakers from AVI, the ADM5's (not sure if they've settled on that name yet). The sound from such a small speaker is huge...
