    First HiFi for a teenager?

Definitely go for separates. A mini system will kill your joy of Hifi before it ever gets going. My first system when I was 14 at boarding school was an A & R A60 with an AR turntable and a pair of Mission 70 mk 2 speakers. I worked 10 hours a day in a shop during holidays to pay for it. Cheap...

Price of 2nd hand HiFi equipment - You can no longer buy a HiFi for £99

Some of the prices on EBay are quite amusing. I regularly find cheap stack systems from the 80s and 90s on sale for £500+. I mean stuff with cassette decks, tone controls and graphic equalizers and, god forbid, minidisc players, that really needs to go in the recycling bin are being offered for...

    What are you watching?

Just watched The Glory again. Damn, doesn’t Korea make some great TV these days. Story about a girl bullied at school plotting her revenge for 20 years. But it’s not the slash and burn type revenge, it’s ruining the perpetrators lives by destroying their marriages and relationships and putting...

Question What's your next HiFi purchase?

I’m eyeing up a pair of B and W 802d4s. I have had the 802d for 15 years and just had it serviced, replacing two tweeters, but before I emigrate tomThailand I am very tempted to update it for the latest model.

Rip, store & play cd collection

Please don’t touch Brennan. It’s garbage, cheaply made and with a terrible DAC. It not proper Hifi…it’s like Bang and Olufsen without the good looks.. for ease of use try the Inuous range. Like the Zen Mini. I ripped 6000 CDs with this and only 30 didn’t rip. Almost all of the names were...

Chinese clones which one to choose?

Gosh that is so naive. Customs is not going to intervene on behalf of the original manufacturer. Anyone who buys this garbage deserves everything they get. They are very poorly manufactured, sometimes ever dangerous. Lord only knows how these companies treat their employees. It is cynical...

Stand for Pass Labs XA 60.8

I would appreciate some suggestions as to where to keep a pair of Pass Labs XA 60.8 monoblocs I currently have them on the floor. Not sure that is a great idea but they are very heavy, about 45kg each. I am told that they can be stacked but does anyone have suggestions about a stand for...

Innuos Zen mini mk3 vs CD transport

Fortunately the zen mini can be used as a player so for the few cds I could not rip I will use that. They play ok but won’t rip which is strange

Innuos Zen mini mk3 vs CD transport

There might be the odd one of two but most are definitely just CDs.

Innuos Zen mini mk3 vs CD transport

Great thanks for the comments. I’m going to investigate the transport route I think. I am aware the Teac is very well thought of. I heard the Cyrus is good but I couldn’t quite get over how damn ugly it looks!

Innuos Zen mini mk3 vs CD transport

Hi thanks for your reply. I don’t know why they won’t rip. They look unmarked but they are themselves copies. Of 4000 only about 75 didn’t rip but they are mainly things not available on Qobuz and I just won’t want to play them unless the quality is very good. I’m generally very happy with the...
