Arcam A 19. I feel it has a big issue.

Plugged in an A19, I was wrong about the volume ladder! it does go up to 99! Mind you 50+ is pretty deafening and the amplifier seems to harden up somewhat. Additative gain perhaps past 50?

Arcam A 19. I feel it has a big issue.

I work for an small high end dealer, but through a lesson learned at the 'Wam, will not divulge who and certainly not try to push our products. We carry Arcam as you have probably figured out... I prefer to remain seperate from the shop on the forum so I can share my own views and not those of...

Arcam A 19. I feel it has a big issue.

Also, he seems to be under the impression that the volume ladder on the A19 goes up to 100. I may check our demo one later if I get time, I'm pretty sure it goes to 60/70 tops so mid 50's is right at the top end of it's output. (essentially the same comment as above but.... my toaster can...

What do very expensive headphones sound like - are they worth it?

I was under the impression that the Orpheus was a Headphone/amp combination? Might be wrong... I'm lucky enough to be within reaching distance of three different Stax headphones and two energizers. The Stax sound like being stood between a pair of Electrostatics. One of their better models...

    Plinius SA103 vs Devialet 170/240

Where are you based? There are upwards of 10 Devialet dealers and WE (I won't tell you which I work for, I'll just keep my fingers crossed that you call us!) cover most of the UK. I'd be surprised/disappointed if you couldn't convince your local to pop out to show you how it sounds/works!

Any amp as detailed as Cyrus 6A but with the control of Roksan?

Where on earth did the A19 come from? An amp marginally more powerful than the Cyrus but without the exacting detail that the OP asked for. Have you got a good dealer nearby that can show you some alternatives? I would say the Musical Fidelity M3i would be a good start. Very clean and open and...

New Arcam AV amps…anyone listened to?

*my opinion, not that of my place of work* We have the 750 set up with a good speakercraft rig, PMC wafer 2 rear surrounds and a couple of rel subs. Having moved from the pioneer range, the Arcam is a much fuller sound with much better placement of effects. Voice seems much clearer and less...

    The Devialet thread

Just re-read my post. I didn't want to sound indignant and scoff at a discount, just any devialet dealer without the range to demo would be shooting themselves in the foot. They really are the hot product at the moment!

Your dealer would have to be bonkers to sell you the demo unit at 25% off. Mind you, that's pretty bonkers to expect you not to notice that it was a demo unit! Especially given he had put a custom config in it... I haven't seen the discolouration before, although we did take the films of of our...

Yamaha R-N500 Network receiver. The future of stereo amplification?

It does a lot, it's fairly inoffensive looking, it will probably sound "OK" much like the AS500. It's nice to see a bit of choice for people that don't want a lot of boxes in the living room. One of these and a snazzy-looking set of speakers like BX2's and you could have a decent little system...

    The Devialet thread

I'm heading back that way myself to be honest. Multichannel seemed to have a five year boom and has given way to soundbars now. Myself, I've been stocking up on lp's recently and remembering how to appreciate some cracking albums. What's first on your list when your 170 arrives? (I know you must...

The unity gain bypasses the amplifier's own volume control and allows you to use it (effectively) as a 2 channel power amplifier if you we're to connect the preouts of a compatible AVR to one of the analogue inputs. You can set the level in the configurator.

The configurator can assign a function to the furthest right-hand button. This can be Phase/Mute/Balance but is not exactly learning as such. I find myself using the app on my iPhone to see volume level I'm at and what available sources there are (as well as play directly, which although not...

    The Devialet thread

Congratulations to both of you. I am lucky enough to be able to use the D-prem, 110, 170 or 240 (even the 500 technically...) on a daily basis and it really is hard to find a more transparent and flexible range. After all the "hoo ha" around here recently about low impedances an the like, I...

    Ex-Display AV Receiver - Risky?

Hi Coops. I spent half a decade working for Richer. Chances are it's never been switched on. £199 is an amazing price for something that originally retailed at £499. I'm sure that if you ask them nicely they will dust it for you. I would definitely get the warranty at the same time. £20...
