Cyrus 8 2 DAC with power amp or Cyrus pre dac with one power amp?

The version 2 was noticeably crisper and gave more weight but it did replace the oldest of my PSX-R. If and when my PSX-R start to sound a bit tired I'll send them to Cyrus for the upgrade to version 2. I've seen plenty of ex demo 300 signature but there's nothing compelling into putting...

Cyrus 8 2 DAC with power amp or Cyrus pre dac with one power amp?

I have never regretted upgrading my Cyrus kit from integrated to pre and power. Thereafter moving from single power to mono bi amp added better separation and soundstage. You don't need to go down the route of the expensive Cyrus mono signature. Just stick to X power plus PSX-R.

Cyrus 8 DAC QX or 8 2 DAC

My 8 xPD QX is about 7 year old and is a 16 bit 44.1 kHz DAC. I've noticed that the USB function won't integrate well with software like Audirvana in that you can't set the input rate above the basic 44.1 kHz. I think the DAC upscales internally to 192 kHz though. The USB is also very noisy. I...

    Audiolab M-DAC mini

It was just coincidence that they arrived on Saturday and I'd made my enquiry before I travelled. It worked very well with an AK Jr via bluetooth. I managed to sort out the S7 Edge too; playing by bluetooth / PowerAmp and using the tone controls (rather than equaliser) with a bit of cross feed...

    Audiolab M-DAC mini

I'd been looking for a portable battery powered headphone DAC for a while and managed to pick up the new M-DAC mini today; the same day my Hi Fi dealer got their first delivery of these units. I'm currently listening to FLAC files on a PC via Foobar2000 v1.3.15 and HD800 headphones. It is the...

    Grado GS1000e

I got the 325is out and gave them a whirl. Still sound very nice but a touch lively, especially highs. Played the same track with the GS1000e and the highs are smooth, vocals clear, bass balanced, mids separated, felt more out-of-head. Also the earpads are much more comfy as I tend to be...

    Cyrus upgrades

The PSX-R I'm considering upgrading was bought ex-demo. It must be six years old and may have contributed to why the PSX-R2 sounded instantly better. I get most benefit of them into my power amps and it's a lot cheaper than going to their top end mono power amps. I think Cyrus are well down...

    Cyrus upgrades

My integrated amp DAC is 16 bit and upscales to 192 khz but USB is very noisy. The Chord Qute DAC knocks the spots off it on USB ... and coax. I think their latest integrated amps are 24 bit and top end Cyrus CDs and DAC/Pre are 32 bit and often dual / balanced. But it doesn't warrant an...

    Grado GS1000e

I have noticed lower end bass is lighter. I'll take improved treble over deep bass. I can detect more detail in the treble and the higher mids too. Almost as if the drivers are tuned to bring those frequencies forward and the bass a tad in the background (potentially less fatiguing too)...

Tame my Cyrus? Speakers for a bright 8 XPD QX

I can vouch that Cyrus amps and PMC twenty.22 work well. The forward facing ATL port is what makes the twenty.20 seriers easy to place near walls given that you place them closer to a wall if you want more bass and vice-versa.

    Cyrus upgrades

Interesting thought on speaker upgrade, Superaintit. A dealer who knows my taste for Cyrus gear says that in my main system the upgrade I would get realistic VFM and benefit from is a speaker upgrade. He knows I like B&W and has been trying to tempt me with the new 805 stand mounts. But that's...

    Cyrus upgrades

I may be about to contract a dose of Cyrus upgrade-itis this summer, so I'm just wondering if anyone tried the following Cyrus upgrades and what obvious results did they notice to justify the expense? PSX-R to PSX-R2 Stream X2 to Stream X Signature 8XPd QX to 8 2DAC QX For me potentially the...

    Grado GS1000e

I'm hoping I would get most of my money back on the HD800. Possibly as a trade in but against what I have no idea yet. I can listen to the HD800 direct from the headphone out on the TEAC DAC but it is a touch harsh and no good for extended listening. I can listen via the Aurium using RCA inputs...

Monitor audio gold gx 50 vs what

I auditioned my GX50 against some Proacs but that was about five years ago. If I went back to the same dealer ship now the competition they stock would still be Proac (based on driver size and price). But I've learned some lessons about the GX50. They need crisp current from a quality amp...
