What with the credit crunch, staying in is the new going out. So what is you perfect night in? Mine would be;

The family together, chilli for dinner.

Scrapheap Challenge as the wee one builds a Lego version of whatever the challenge is.

More play and an album on the Sounddock

Top Gear, calm down time.

Wee one to bed and an hour logged on to the What hifi forum as I search for new music on Spotify, itunes etc.

Something like CSI or House or Heroes with a light supper.

Some sort of comedy, from QI to Live at the Apollo.

A Wheeler Dealers or a Car is Born.

0100 bedtime.

The Wife phones and says she's stuck on the motorway and her parents place is nearer, so she'll go and spend the night there instead.

Gemma Atkinson knocks on the door, her car has broken down outside my house and she wants to use the phone. She's soaking wet from the rain, so I offer her the use of the tumble dryer, which she accepts.

We're sitting down watching TV, her in her skivvies. when she sees I have 2 guitars for Guitar Hero 3 on the Wii. She challenges me to a game. She's surprisingly good but I'm better.

After an hour or so, I say I'm gonna order a curry. She says she's famished and would fancy one too. So I order for both of us (and she's paying 'cos I've been so helpful)

Curry turns up, I open a couple of brews, and we sit down to watch a very good film that neither of us have seen before (On PPV).

About bedtime, her AA guy turns up, she dons her clothing, thanks me for my assistance and is off into the night.

Don't you just hate it when that happens.

Would she be doing research for a new part that needs a nice English (or French) accent instead of her Northern drawl? That would top it off.

Nah - that'd involve acting...

The kids are tired after a great day in the sun drenched garden so are happy to go to bed after their bath. Curry is ordered to arrive in 2 hours. Beer and wine chilled (no red wine until later as it doesn't go with curry). The missus agrees to watch Amelie and therefore I get to rave over it with her afterwards as we eat our food and drink our wine. I then open the LoveFilm package I'd left on the table and The Sopranos has been Blurayed from the first season!! We settle down to watch the first ever episode in 1080p, DTS HD and the doorbell goes. It's my cousin and his missus - he is the second biggest Sopranos fan. We watch the first few episodes and then I hit shuffle on my system and we drink, talk and listen to music until we can't speak anymore!

I'm doing a two month trip at sea just now. After a 12 hour shift I try and drag myself to the gym every second night for an hour. I'm not a keep fit fanatic but I feel it helps with the stress of being on ship and away from home. I hit my bed which is far too small for me as I'm tall grrrr!. Bliss for me is getting the portable dvd player out. I have just completed The Wire series 1 to 5. What a great TV drama. Will finish the night off with a book. Two month of ground hog day. The weekends at home are special to me as my wife is off. Being a chef I cook up some nice nosh and eat at the dinning table. Then we sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy a good old natter with some back ground music. After a while the music gets notched up and takes over everything. Shut the blinds and have a dance maybe. Why not lol. Other nights it can be a movie or a live concert dvd.
