Why is your question identical to one already posted by another member??Which album in your collection brings back the strongest memories of your dad? Maybe one he played often, gifted you, or left behind?
I've always liked 'Because They're Young'.I inherited all my dad's record collection but the ones the remind me most of my dad and definitely his favourite are all his Duane Eddy albums. I have tried to play a few but late 1950’s to 1960’s vinyl is so crackly and my dad looked after his stuff. I tend to listen to Duane Eddy on Spotify now. Even have "Dad's favourite artist part 1” play list that is all Duane Eddy. When I get round to making part 2 it will be all the Rolling Stones stuff prior to 1970.
He knew his Rap music best rap song ever especially the long version of around fifteen minutes. And oddly enough, I believe I can attribute my interest in hip-hop and rap to my father as well as he was the first to ever play Sugar Hill Gang - Rapper's Delight for me.
- Lynyrd Skynyrd - Skynyrd's Innyrds
- Tom Petty - Greatest Hits
👍 Acknowledged as a first.best rap song ever especially the long version of around fifteen minutes.
It's strange isn't it?My father was never into music. He never listened to music, not something that gave him a buzz. Though, the Eurovision Song Contest got him fired up. When Mary Hopkins came second singing Those were the days..or was it Cliff Richards with Congratulations?
I do recall the massive furniture cocktail cabinet with a music player. The fluorescent litted glass sliding door left side, there were neatly stacked sherry and whiskey bottles and rows of crystal glasses.
The polished glossy Mahogany, the door to the right, slide it to the left, it revealed a turntable and above it had a tube receiver FM/AM radio, had a big manual dial with push down buttons. The discrete clothed grilled speakers were positioned on the lower panel.
I'm not sure why my parents brought it, perhaps it was meant to be a social statement, like the first in the neighborhood to have a 26" colour TV.
Despite the devoid of music in my household,
It was my first foray into Hifi, I recall as a kid going to Walthamstow market record store on most Saturdays, where I would spend my pocket money, accumulated from the week on 7" vinyl.
I think this may have been the catalyst that got me into music.
So thank you dad, well actually my mum, she's the one making the buying decisions 😁
I wonder if Walthamstow dog track is still going? 🙂It's strange isn't it?
To buy a radiogram, but no vinyl.
In our case we were given a radiogram by my Uncle, together with some of his spare vinyl - as he was getting into proper hi-fi.
But, just like your parents, mine never bought vinyl - apart from that one out of the blue Love Unlimited Orchestra 7", it was just me, buying one or two 50p vinyl 7".
My Dad was into dog racing - Walthamstow was a favourite.
When it came to us moving out of London, it had to be to a place with a dog track - Southend was chosen as it had its own - and Rayleigh, just up the road also had a track 🙂
Don't think my Mum or Dad ever laid a finger on that radiogram.
What was his one liner? My parents grew up with big bands, Jazz etc etc. The only ones I have is (ahem) Max Bygraves and Mrs. Mills. 🫣
No, it all ended quite a while back.I wonder if Walthamstow dog track is still going? 🙂
Oh that's a shame. No, it all ended quite a while back.
"I wanna tell you a story" 😂What was his one liner?
I'll tell you a story
Ha ha ha 😂
