Hi everyone,

There doesn't seem to be much available online about users' comments relating to the YSP-600 soundbar, so I thought I'd start a post to collect information from users.

Can anyone provide a short review on this - is it any good?

I had the same problem. I couldn't find much information on it but I decided to get one anyway. I have it in a corner underneath my TV and I still find it very effective even although it is not in the centre of the wall. It has tons of manual settings which I've not got around to playing with and I'm sure if I had it correctly placed and setup manually it could sound even better. It won't deliver HD audio but it still sounds great with DD and DTS and there are a number of different sound settings to choose from.

One thing I notice is that there doesn't seem to be much difference between this and the older ysp-500 apart from HDMI connectors so you could save your self some money and connect using an optical lead and get the old model.

Although it doesn't give me brilliant rear effects due to the postioning of my living room, it still gives a good rumble and will immerse an average sized living room with great surround sound. It blows away anything my tv will do and the fact that it is quite neat is a nice touch. I was very impressed when watching gladiator.

In summary, I think it is impressive, it is neat, easy to setup and fills the room with great sound. I will admit that a proper 5.1 setup wil be better so if your obsessed with getting perfect surround, this won't be for you. It will be best in the centre of the wall so it can bounce off the side walls. Curtains and sofas can reduce the effect but I still find it good. If you could give one a demo then that will help you decide.

Thanks headfi, that's really useful. I'd be using it in a similar set up to you from a corner position and I want it to improve the TV/DVD sound without having to have a full surround set up (lack of room and a dislike of speakers everywhere by the other half!).

Hiya, there is a good forum on the other forum website about the pros and cons of the YSP 30d and 40D something I am thinking about purchasing. Whereas it is not the 600 model it does give some good info. I have heard the excellent YSP 1100 in action in both movie and audio formats at my local sevenoakes and I was impressed. The only downside is the lack of dts HD audio via HDMI, so I might hold off and see if they release a new model next year.

I also considered delaying until they introduced HD models but the prices were pretty good (a lot less than the rrp) and if they were to release a new model now it would probably cost a fortune anyway. I also wasn't convinced that HD audio would be that much of an improvement over dolby digital on a soundbar and since blue ray discs have all audio formats then that was the decision made!

Shado, can you give me a pointer as to which forum you are referring to? (the other forum.... sounds a bit like an episode of Lost, or a reference to OxBridge parlance)

Good point... is there any benefit from having ÿfull HD sound capabilities on a sound bar?.... (and I don't have a blue ray player!!)

Fair point but on the Forum they were discussing a possible firmware from Yamaha in South Africa ref Dolby HD.

Anyroad the website is www.another site and I typed in YSP 40d where the top thread is discussions between YSP 40D and 30D or something to that extent. Unfortunately the 40D is too wide for my Stand but the 30D is a perfect fit and with the YSF Sub Woofer in Piano Black I am looking at £628 for the two. I am v sorely tempted as that is a good price for them plus delivery.

Even my wife is convinced
