Hi, another dumb question from a complete novice!

I’ve just bought a Yamaha RXV673 and the Wharfedale DX1-HCP speakers. The speakers are rated at 4 ohms and the receiver is set as standard at 8 ohms. There is an option in amplifiers setup to change to 6 ohms. So, which would be the best setting for best the running of the speakers and amplifier, 6 or 8?

Many thanks Gavin

The speakers are actually 8 ohms, Wharfedale made a mistake on both the speaker sticker and in the manual, you'll be fine.

I work in the industry we have been told by Wharfedale that they are in fact 8 ohms. They still take some driving as they have a fairly low sensitivity.

Possibly, I'm only going on what I've been told. They don't quote an impedance on the web page, only in the manual and on the speakers themselves-maybe worth an email to Wharfedale from the OP to absolve themselves from any blame should the worst happen.

Thanks for the relpies, still not sure though as there are conflicting answers. The audio company I bought the package from emailed back and said I should set the amplifier to 6 ohms.

As suggested though, I've sent an email to Wharfedale to see what their take on it is.

Cheers

I've just had a reply to the email sent to Wharfedale. It didn't directly answer the question of the actual speaker impedance but suppose I should be happy!

Hi Gavin

The DX-1 system is perfectly compatible with either 6 or 8 ohms. Just leave it on 8 and it will be fine

Regards

Steve

Glad you got that reply from them. I have the 373 an same speaker setup an this has been bugging me for a while. I have even considered taking them back to richer sounds as I got it as a package an I was puzzled as to how they could sell incompatible setup. Hopefully we should be ok then.
