Subject to availability I can probably get the Yahama for around £1149. Does anyone have any experience with both or either of these amps and recommend which one to go for?

I have just bought the 3900 - I'm very pleased with the sound quality. The user interface is only slightly more friendly than a cornered rat, but I've never owned an av amp before so maybe they're all like that.

The fact is that you will be very happy either way. I reckon the Pioneer is the nicer-looking of the two, not that it should have a bearing on your decision.

If you can obtain the Yamaha for such a good price, I would certainly recommend to go for it.

I have exactly the same dillema. ANd to complicate things more there is a third player in the game (Sony 5400ES)

I would like to compare them all myself but unfortunately I can't see this happening in Cyprus.

Is it easy for the WHFSAV team to tell us which one they thing is best for Music and which one for Movies and mark them in a scale of 1 to 5 or something 🙂 Please??

I have listened to the Pioneer and the Sony, not the Yamaha though (Can't find one) Let's just say, the Pioneer won. Loads of people disagree with What HiFi saying the Sony is better, for movies, they are roughly the same, but for music, the pioneer rocks!
