Yamaha CD-S300 CDplayer?

Hi Fi-lovers, does anyone have any experience with the Yamaha CD-S300 CD player?

Is it any good or gives it average sonic performance?

We have ours here but as the amp hasnt arrived I havent even turned it on yet. Looks well built though. I will try to hook it up today to see how it goes.

The CD-S300 will be designed to go with the new £230 Yamaha A-S300 amp (Already available for £206)

Probably best to wait for the matching CD-S500

I'm sure it'll be along soon.

[Update] Seems there is now a Yamaha T-S500 tuner even though it is not even on the Yamaha Europe/UK site. Probably because it lacks DAB. Maybe there will be a DAB version of the T-S500 for the UK.

Nice to see Yamaha getting back into budget hifi seperates again.

There is even a R-S500/700 receiver with built-in tuners ....seems a fusion of the A-S500 and T-S-500.

If there were an R-S1000 with FM, DAB+ and internet tuner and built in DAC (plus polished wooden ends and LED backlit VU meters) I would seriously have to get it!

I love the retro looks of the A-S1000/2000 stuff and feel they ought to go the extra mile with backlit meters. (Useless but cool

)

I think they should do a nice pre/power amp based on the 1000/2000 series - as you say Chebby, with the same retro looks and some nice big VU meters - I'd buy that

Have you received any confirmation from Yamaha as to when the NS-B500 speakers will be released in the UK?

The HiFix PDF of Yamaha's A-S500 / A-S300 press release does mention them briefly, and they feature on the Yamaha UK website, so just wondering if you guys have been given any dates yet?

Hi Chebby....I just downloaded the Yamaha 2011 brochure...there is no CD-S500 in the 2011 brochure. There will be a T-D500 tuner with DAB/DAB+. Nice visual combo A-S500/CD-S300 and T-D500

I think you're right, especially given the pricing of the CD-S300, CD-C600 and CD-S700. Also, the CD-S300, A-S300 and A-S500 were all released together.

Personally, I'd like to see a NP-S500*. Now that would be interesting...

*Given Yamaha's A-S500 tagline - "Clear sound in the A-S2000 tradition" - and their release of the NP-S2000, it would fill the CD-S500 gap nicely.

After the latest review of this player in what hifi i still don't know what's wrong with it. It has no drive or attack ?

There's little 'wrong' with a player that gets a four-star rating. We merely note that compared to the best players at this price point the Yamaha lacks a little energy. So if, say, you've got a rousing rock song or dramatic piece of classic music, the CD-S300 doesn't drive along the music as well as some.
